ok, so im sure everyone remembers that rush said that mcnabb was hyped simply cause he is black, and at best hes a mediocre (or whatever adjective rush used).

to this, everyone said rush was racist, and he got shitcanned from his job.

now we have this

Quote:
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has expressed surprise and disappointment after hearing of racially charged criticism made by Philadelphia NAACP president J. Whyatt Mondesire in a Nov. 27 column in the Philadelphia Sun.

Mondesire, the Sun's publisher and editor, wrote that McNabb is a "mediocre talent" who tries to disguise his ineffectiveness behind "some concocted reasoning" that African-American quarterbacks who scramble are somehow lesser "field generals."

McNabb, who endured Rush Limbaugh's comments just a few years earlier, was baffled by Mondesire's remarks.

"Especially being the same color I am," McNabb told the Philadelphia Inquirer. "Obviously if it's someone else who is not African-American, it's racism. But when someone of the same race talks about you because you're selling out because you're not running the ball, it goes back to: What are we really talking about here?

"If you talk about my play, that's one thing. When you talk about my race, now we've got problems. If you're trying to make a name off my name, again, I hope your closet is clean because something is going to come out about you ... I always thought the NAACP supported African-Americans and didn't talk bad about them. Now you learn a little bit more."

Mondesire also claimed that McNabb's "failure as a team leader off the field" led to the Terrell Owens situation. If McNabb "had the courage to offer only a tiny fraction" of his bonus to Owens and running back Brian Westbrook, Mondesire wrote, the "media circus" could have been avoided.

"When you go deep into that, or say I didn't stick up for someone, or why didn't I give a little bit of my money to someone else who is making money, you try to find an answer for that," McNabb told the Phialdelphia Daily News. "There's no answer that I've found."

McNabb plans to move on from Mondesire's column, but for the first time in his Eagles' tenure, McNabb has to answer questions about locker-room leadership.

"This season was a tough season from the beginning," McNabb told the Inquirer. "People may blame it on just one particular person, but ... it's something that kind of spread in the locker room.

"There's never been a question of me losing the locker room until this year. If I've lost the locker room, then the question goes up why. Is it because now people are starting to look at me sideways for what I've been doing, or what I make, or whatever he had a problem with? That's the question I'm trying to get answered: If I've lost the locker room or not? No answer has come my way.

"But I do know the main reason we're not a good team is because we don't play as a team. Everybody has to realize that in order for us to get back to the Super Bowl and win it, we all have to play well together. You never heard anything like this coming from the Indianapolis Colts. You never heard anything like this coming from the New England Patriots. Baltimore, when they won the Super Bowl, they never had anything like this."

the italicized part is what gets me.....

if an african american person says it, its ok, but if someone who isnt says it, its racist? mcnabb is a decent qb, not a joey harrington or aaron brooks, but not in the class of say brady, manning and favre

now the rest of the article is insane. i have never and will never complain about someone signing a contract that is offered to them and then say, they should give money to so and so player, though juwan howard has been stealing money for years in the NBA, i dont begrudge him for that.

the only part of the article that really raise my eyebrow is the part i highlighted.

I don't see where McNabb said it's okay that he said it.

The part that got me was where the guy said McNabb is betraying his race by not scrambling so much.

i read this article and it struck me as odd too. in my opinion if a person has an opinion about another person based on race, regardless if they are the same race or not, its a racist opinion. i dunno why mcnabb thinks its different.

we are talking about an upset eagles fan saying stupid shit. it doesnt matter if he's the president of the NAACP or a file clerk from south jersey.

he never said it was ok, but to me, it implied that the guy has a right to it as his opinion, but because hes also of the same race, that doesnt make it racist

this is the part where i believe, least to me, he implies, if whitey says it, its racist, if a brotha says it, then it has some merit

It sounded to me like McNabb was angrier that the reporter was black.

trust me, if i was trying to do that, there would be no questioning of it

im just stating exactly what i took away from the article, it seems to me that soup boy is saying if it was a white person who said it, then its racist, but since the guy has the same skin color as him, then he wants to figure out where hes coming from

I can see that in this case. However, at the time of Rush' little statement, McNabb was one of the best quarterbacks in the country. So since it did not match reality at the time, it was a tough call not to take it as racism.

However, McNabb's statement does seem to reek of favoratism towards people of his own color, when it comes to making statements about color and his performance. I think that it most definately could be taken to seem that Donovan believes any criticism towards him from white individuals is racist, and criticism from people of his own race may have merit. Either way, he should be questioning himself, and others should be as well regardless of their race. The guy is not performing like he was one, two years ago, and his team is a mess.
dont worry, we are. and this is coming from a blond haired blue eyed white boy. although, the teams situation was a pretty bad mess that cant all be blamed on mcnabb, after all alot of his problems came from injury. my theory is this year was just a hiccup in the way the teams front office does business

To answer your questions peeps, you're right. Both cases are racism. It is a common misconception among many Americans that racism only applies to Whites hating on Blacks. I've actually heard bumpkins from my town say it's "reverse racism" if a black dude says "cracker" to a white dude. Go figure.

oh believe me, i have been subject to a few degrees of racism from african americans

last night for example, i was the only whitey on my basketball team, and i shit you not, we averaged maybe 2 assists a game. there were several times where i was completely alone underneath the basket, made eye contact with the guy who had the ball, a clear path to pass it to me, and he dribbled around and jacked up a 25 foot shot, only to say afterwards, oh my bad, i didnt see you.

the funny thing is, i have busted all their asses before in weeks gone by, but since im not your sterotypical basketball player, why give it to the fat white guy

Racist or not, I don't know of any white people who read the Philadelphia Sun.
