Is it just me, or do these guys no really live up to the hype?! Maybe I'm missing the alleged "brilliance" of it. The music is ok, nothing to special, but the vocals are pretty bad in my opinion.

Let me get this out of the way first: the band name is goddamn awful. But this is some really catchy music.
Its not exactly original and its probably trendy. They just released an album to greats reviews in the alternative music press, and they're unsigned. I don't know why I like this album and maybe they are today's Interpol/Modest Mouse/Franz Ferdinand/Arcade Fire, but its just a really nice catchy album with some obvious influences.
Think the Talking Heads/The Arcade Fire, with really jangly, nicely textured guitars that recall the poppier side of shoegazing and psychadelia.
For the record, I heard the album earlier this week before I read any reviews and was impressed, so you heard it here first folks.

I really like Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah. I think I put the album in my top 5 for the year. Personally I think total originality is a myth. It's impossible to be completely original. Every band has their influences and those influences tend to show in the music. The main thing is not to sound like a knock off band. I think Clap Your Hands... does their thing very well and hide their influences well enough. I do think the first track on the album is a little dumb but the rest is great. I can understand people not liking them, I can imagine some people not being able to get past this guys voice, it's a bit odd.
As far as the singers voice goes, he really does sound like David Byrne from the Talking Heads, as someone else mentioned above. All things considered, they might indeed just be trendy and nothing to get too worked up about, but thier album in indeed clever and enjoyable by my standards.

I think this thread deserves a bump. I put the band away for a bit, and then took another a couple of listens and really, really like them. They are nothing revolutionary in terms of sound or lyrics, but they're a really tight band. Good enough for me to enjoy.
