this is a seriously underappreciated band commercially

I REALLY liked ...Trail of the Dead until i saw them live. Number 1, Explosions in the Sky opened and blew my fucking mind. But then ...Trail of the Dead came out and wrecked their gear 4 goddamned times which required them to set everything back up which took anywhere from 10 - 15 minuets. Their gimmic just got old pretty fast.

:o You're the first person that I ever heard or read saying that you didn't like ToD live. All I hear is that they are amazing live and that they sound even better than on the records. Anyway, I'm not saying you're not entitled to your own opinion or anything, just pointing that out. I'd love to see those guys live.

Worlds Apart rocks. It's different, but just as good as Source Tags.

I heard it sucked, though I'll download it anyway. I really wasn't wild about their first album...it was good, not great. Too punk and noisey for me.

If being too punk-ish and noisy was the problem then I think you'll like this record, it's more melodic and less "raw".

I'm kinda past my "punk" stage at the moment

I love this band.

The new album is great.

Source Tags & Codes will always be my favorite though.

I'm excited for the new one. I really liked Source Tags & Codes, especially "How Near, How Far".

When you say "first album" you're talking about the literal first one and not "Source Tags..." right?

Okay this is a song about killing everybody, let's all sing along now

Dream machine,
John and exene,
Smear campaign,
And a swat team.

Let's have a feudal lord,
Let's have a fascist regime,
Side effects,
Coupled with withdrawl bleeding.

This is a riot, right?
Let's all riot riot,
Let's tear this place to shit,
Commit pact suicide.

(you know you all want it, now let's all kill ourselves)
Kill, kill, kill, kill, kill.

Put your hand to my mouth,
And a gun to my head,
Let's stop this false pretence,
Become real friends.

Let's have a mustard gas war,
Because a fuck's a fuck,
Richter scale madness,
Join the gun club, join the gun club.

"On January 25th, in the year of our lord 2005, your favorite band of Texans will be musical guests on David Letterman's late night talk show..."

http://www.stuffmagazine.com/hype/revie ... _8018.html

…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead
Worlds Apart
(Interscope Records)

Release Date:
January 10, 2004

Rating:
10 shovels, for dead-trail shoveling
The skinny:
…And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead bring the fury of their onstage destruction to their new album, Worlds Apart, with epic songs that build from piano plinks to thunderous drum storms. (Carry an umbrella when you listen to it.) Melodic and boisterous, the acronym-friendly AYWKUBTTOD augment their artistry with bleats and squeaks that'll leave you searching for a can of WD-40. Like true rebels, the band members are too jaded and disaffected to care about the Swan-style makeover they give rock. "What's the future of rock 'n' roll/I say, I don't know/Does it matter?" Yes. No. Maybe?

If you liked this album, you’d like:
Explosions in the Sky, Mercury Rev, stubbing your toe

What does someone on the dead trail think of this?
I really wish I didn't know them.
