I joined the blockbuster online rental just for the free trial because american express offered one month free. You get two free instore rentals and today I tired to use them but they wanted me to sign up for an in-store membership. I said even though I am a memeber on-line and they have all of my info online I still have to sign up another membership. Well simply put I didn't get my two free rentals and I will cancel my membership online. Nowhere on the coupons does it say that you have to be an in-store member. This is why their stock went down 66% this year.

Boo hoo. I've never been to a movie store that didn't require you to have a membership first. The online membership is completely separate.

I am not upset or mad. It is their loss not mine. I am already a member of Netflix. I am just saying that it seems that this store is getting shittier and shittier.

You sure about that? You're the one who gave up two free rentals.

Because they wanted you to sign up for an account before renting you movies? Again, I've never been to a movie store that let you just throw a few bucks at them and they let you waltz out with their movies without knowing who you are first.

it is there loss. I will just rent them from netflix. It is their loss because they are going to lose my monthly membership. I can wait for the movies. It is not that big a deal.

I understand that you can't walk into any movie store and just rent a movie but the fact that I am signed up on line should allow me to go to there store and use the coupons. The coupons have my name on them as well as a bar code that has all of my information on them because she scaned the coupont and it pulled up my info the whole point is that they just wanted me to sign up. I used to be a member there, not sure why they couldn't pull up my info from my past account. Regardless when she scanned to coupon my name pulled up. It was really busy and there was only one girl behind the counter. So it would have taken her a long time to enter it in and that is not fair to me to have to wait or the people that were behind me.

When I worked at Blockbuster last summer I hated customers like you, I'm not going to lie. If you are inconvenienced by having to sign up for an in-store membership then that's pretty sad in my opinion. The reason why you need an instore membership even though you have an online membership is because they are two separate entities. The store needs to have your info because you are taking their movies. And the reason why they didn't have your info on hand is because the computers at each store delete the records of customers who have been inactive for 6 months. However, if you still had your Blockbuster card they could've scanned that and a new record with the same account number would be put back into the system.

Sorry if I sounded like a dick, jkc4118, but this thread gave me flashbacks of dealing with customer complaints.

hey man, I feel you, I worked at target when I was in college and I hated rude customers too. I was not rude at all to the girl behind the counter. I said "No thanks there is too long of a line to do all this and I left" I was very polite to her. I would never take it out on a worker. It is not their fault that I do not agree with management policy.

I'll give a few:

They've got a shitty selection of movies.

The movies at the Cockbuster nearest me aren't even close to being organized properly, to the point where it's actually hard to find movies. Example: You would currently find Suspiria under Action movies and Robocop under drama.

The no late fees thing is basically a double edged sword. If you actually rent a movie you want, it's nice to have some extra time with it. On the other hand, when you inevitably get there and the movie you want is out, it's probably going to say out for a long time because the guy who has it doesn't have a late fee prompting him to bring the damn thing back in.

I rent at the locally owned Hollywood video here (not to be confused with the chain). If you're willing to suck it up and rent a VHS here and there, they have pretty much any movie you're looking for, the people are nice, and they almost always have new releases in stock, and if they don't you can be sure they will in a day or so. Now if they (and their customers I'm sure) could get over having so many damn full screen dvds, they'd really be doing good.

Netflix is the only thing you need and blockbuster and hollywood and west coast (if they still exist) are done in the next 5 years.

Those are my main two problems. Granted i still go to Blockbuster because it's down the street and despite its shitty selection, still has a better selection than the other options in the neighborhood (convenience stores).

1. Their selection sucks for the most part (and this is just my local store, i have been to larger stores in other places that have a reasonable selection). They have a million copies of the big releases from that month (which mysteriously are almost always rented out), but 1 copy of the quirky indie flick that won big at Cannes..and it is always rented.

2. The organization of non new releases is terrible. You wouldn't go to a library or bookstore and expect to find something if it was only sorted by fiction and non-fiction. So why sort movies by drama, comedy and action. Those strokes are too broad and I end up being baffled while looking through 2 walls of poorly sorted action movies and leaving empty handed after 15 minutes of pacing.

3. The price. Movie rental fees are reasonable...but they recently raised the price of video game rentals to the point where it is over $8 (at least here, i don't know if they did in the US). That is too much for me. Especially since I am not a gamer, and I usually end up getting a game that is 2 years old anyways (which i could buy for $20 in the used video game bin at Blockbuster btw).

Regarding online rentals. While convenient I don't think they will be replacing the video store anytime soon. I have no use for online rentals since most of my renting is done on a whim. It's a snowy Friday night, you don't feel like doing much so you swing by the blockbuster and grab a couple movies. Impulse renting is 95% of my renting. That can't be done with Netflix. You need to plan your movie nights that way.

With OnDemandTV being offered by cable and satellite providers, it's only a matter of time before you can order ANY movie or TV show instantly without leaving the couch. You'll probably be able to browse a website to find something you want to see, then order it and BAM it's on your TV. Seems like the next logical step.

Jck, once you've cancelled, pay close attention to your credit card bill. When I worked at BB, we had more than a few customers on the movie pass or the online deal come in complaining that they had cancelled and had continued to get charged.
