The Redwalls - must have a good publicist
Maximo Park - I like em. Franz/Futureheads/Magazine on steroids sound. Try "Apply Some Pressure". Good album.
Okkervil River - Americana rootsy kind of sound. Critically acclaimed not really my bag.
The Rumble Strips - no idea
Wolf Parade - Modest Mouse meets Arcade Fire sound. Some people are overly critical due to hype album got around it's release. Interested to hear how they develop. Certainly not the finished article yet. Try Shine a Light and This Heart's On Fire
Stars - Layered poppy synth sound. Some really good songs. Not really my thing.
Scissor Sisters - Do you like Elton John and Abba? Are you a hairdresser? Check this out.

Why do you say that?

Of all the bands on this little list, I kinda figured they'd be the most obscure. They are like the Shins... and almost as good. If you can find them, I highly recommend Blame the English, or Stop Being Perfect.
Two of these aren't indie bands; and the Scissor Sisters don't even cop that style of "Fox's the O.C." so-called indie rock that is making the rounds these days. The Scissor Sisters are more just a good time band. Yeah it all sounds like Elton, or Queen, or Bowie, but they make some catchy dance/party tunes. I have a funny feeling those other bands all make mopey sad bastard music. I'm going to finish listening to my Rush comp. disc. [/b]
Did you guys realize that Rush's 1st album, self-titled, was released on independent Moon Records in March of 1974? So at their very core Rush are an Indie Rock band. They just chose to sing about cool shit like Snow Dogs and Orwellian Societies of the future instead of crying like little bitches with skinned knees as many of today's indie rock bands choose to do.
Stars are one of the few good 80's throwback bands.
I wasn't aware that there was such a thing as a good 80's throwback band. Geez, even Rush wasn't very good during the 80's
The Cure, The Smiths, My Bloody Valentine, Joy Division, New Order, early U2.

Way to generalize there capn ass hat. What bands are you listening to where they sing about skinned knees and whatnot?

I don't listen to any of those panty waists. I've learned my lesson in the past and I've found that you can avoid them by just dodging any band with the tell tale shitty name that sounds really earnest and pretentious. Bear in mind taht I am overgeneralizing for comedic effect or at least for my own entertainment. But I tell you what; we'll play a game. You tell me your favorite indie rock/scrawny pasty dudes band and I'll track down an example of their whiny, why am I always picked last for dodgeball in gym class lyrics.
And just for reference here is a fine example of non-douchey lyrics:
"A Passage to Bangkok"
Our first stop is in Bogota
To check Colombian fields
The natives smile and pass along
A sample of their yield
Sweet Jamaican pipe dreams
Golden Acapulco nights
Then Morocco, and the East,
Fly by morning light
We're on the train to Bangkok
Aboard the Thailand Express
We'll hit the stops along the way
We only stop for the best
Wreathed in smoke in Lebanon
We burn the midnight oil
The fragrance of Afghanistan
Rewards a long day's toil
Pulling into Katmandu
Smoke rings fill the air
Perfumed by a Nepal night
The Express gets you there

These ARE 80's bands, not 80's throwback bands. Big difference.
And by the way:
The Cure - meh
The Smiths - some pretty good stuff, but I don't want to hear anything from a band that counts them as a big influence, because the likelihood is too great that they are just a bunch of Morrisey fan boys trying to mimic the man himself instead of doing their own thing.
MBV - You and I both know no one ever heard of MBV until the 90's. Loveless is pretty kick ass though, I'll give you that.
Joy Division, New Order - Sorry I actually enjoy going out in the sun.
