I'm interested in finding out a few opinions about what you guys consider the greatest work of art ever. I know it's tough to compare works even in one specific genre, but if you were forced to pick only one, what piece of artwork would top your list, and why? All artforms are valid - paintings and sculptures, music, literature, and so on.

I'd choose Beethoven's Ninth Symphony. Not only is it an incredible piece of music with complex twists and turns and beautiful melodies in every movement, but it was constructed by Beethoven while he was deaf. The feat was incredible, and it produced what arguably is the most popular piece of music in Western culture.

Close behind: Shakespeare's King Lear and the Mona Lisa.

I agree with Mona Lisa. It's great, but didn't do much for me in person. I think The Last Supper is far better, but I wouldn't put it first either.

The best I've ever seen in person is Guernica.

It's so powerful, and political, and complex, and all in shades of gray. It's also huge, like 15 feet wide or something. I'd seen photos of it many times, but to stand before the original really blew my mind.

Wow, I saw that one in person too. It is pretty amazing.

However, for my personal best artwork of all time I think I might go with something from the Bob Dylan catalogue...perhaps "the times they are a-changin'"
