my brother just got this as a xmas present. i watched a bit of it, but was a wee bit disturbed by the premise.
apparently this guy has lived with a group of grizzly bears for some 13 years. they would walk right by him and not do anything, their cubs would do the same.
the 14th year he wasnt so lucky. he was attacked, and while the camera was rolling, they had the lens cap on,so all you can hear is moaning from him and him telling his gf to run.
she bravely stuck by his side wacking the bears with a skillet, then they turned their attention to her. they later carried away the remains from the bears (after they were killed) in four garbage bags.

Yeah, it came out this year and was really acclaimed. Werner Herzog (who directed like 10 other masterpieces) directed and assembled the guy's footage. I heard it was terrific, I need to see this.

What a strange, strange movie. I saw it a couple of months ago and thought it was good. but unintentionally funny in many parts.
like the part where he says, these bears love me, they would never hurt me. i live for these bears, id die for these bears....
The editing makes it so damn funny too. Maybe I'm an evil person, but I laughed quite a bit. Plus, the hippies were funny and his rant against the National Parks Services. That's priceless.

i watched this movie over the weekend and rather enjoyed it. i find it so sad that this guy was so detached from the world that he actually thought that he wouldn't eventually be eaten by the bears sooner or later. i know he says at certain points in the film that it could happen, but he also says, like mentioned earlier, "these bears would never hurt me".
SPOILER..........................
i can find it plausible that the group of bears he had been living with every summer for 13 yrs would not attack him. however, he was attacked by a bear that he had never seen before, that had just moved into the territory after the other bears had left for their winter hibernation. i find it a little strange that they mention in the film that he always was alone until the last summer, when he took his girlfriend. he was always saying that it was SO important that he be alone with the bears so they would not be disturbed, so why bring the gf? they also mentioned in the film that he always left much earlier in each of the previous years. so why did he stay longer in his last summer, when the known group of bears had left for hibernation and a different group of bears, , which he had not been priorly aquainted with were moving into the area.
all i'm saying is the guy was clearly a nutcase, and i don't find it a bit unlikely that this could have been some kind of suicide/murder death wish that he may have had for himself and his girlfriend. anyone else on the same page with me, or am i just looking a little far into it?

Rented and watched this tonight, great doc. Clearly the guy was an idiot but also a very interesting case study. I can't imagine how this could have been done any better.

The discovery channel won't rape this thing through editing, will it?
if they're planning on airing it, they'll have to do some heavy editing with the language. and i'm afraid we won't see the tyrade about the park service on the discovery channel either.

My favorite part of the film is when Treadwell is going off on people from the National Park Service...Herzog cuts off the sound and says something like, "by naming specific individuals, he's crossing a line that we will not cross." I don't know why, but I found that really quite hilarious.
