I recently visited the Tate Modern Art Museum on London's southbank, situated in a former power station. I don't really know much about art, but I know what I like; and one collection of art in the museum really astonished me. It was a piece by the artists Gilbert and George entitled Death Hope Life Fear in which many small frames were put together to form huge pictures, each one detailing Hope or Life etc. Each picture, in which the artists themselves were included, showed several people in different poses in the screen which correspond to the mood of the overal picture; thus, in Hope, all the models were placed together under a blue sky and the white cliffs of Dover, whilst in Fear, they were split apart by red-eyed faces. What made the pictures more interesting was the bright, unnatural colours that were used, giving them an eerie sense of unreality and the size of the artworks.
Despite scouring the web I've only been able to find one quarter of the piece. But the effect, in one four-sided room, was amazing. I was wondering if any of you had ever seen something in an art museum that just left you amazed.
Sorry if that sounded a bit pretentious; like I said, I know little about art but I thought this piece really was pretty cool

Quite frequently. The current VanGogh drawings exhibition at The Met is amazing. Seeing the insane amount of detail and watching his simple sketches develop into beautiful paintings is just great to see.

I saw some great ones at the U of Nebraska Gallery. Any nice gallery will have at least one painting that leaves you breathless. For me, art galleries have always been a religious experience-nothing leaves me feeling more awestruck and humbled.

Well for the most part yes. But are they in the same league as Salvador Dali, and etc.? No.
