I'm about to order a bunch of CDs from amazon. A lot of these are from bands that I have no material from. So, I was just thinking someone who is more knowledgeable than I could look over this list and make sure I am getting the right album to start out with.

These are the albums I am ordering that will be my first from each artist:

Jessamine - Jessamine
Raising the Fawn - The North Sea
Character - A Flashing of Knives and Green Water
The Secret Machines - Now Here is Nowhere
Movietone - The Sand and the Stars
The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Dinosaur Jr. - Green Mind
Pixies - Doolittle
Super Furry Animals - Radiator
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Grandaddy - The Sophtware Slump
Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider
The Go! Team - Thunder, Lightning, Strike
Can - Tago Mago
Faust - Faust So Far
Pram - The Museum of Imaginary Animals
His Name Is Alive - Mouth by Mouth
Luna - Bewitched
Ladytron - Witching Hour

Hows it look?

PS: Insound is a waste of time. Just go straight to amazon.com and save yourself the trouble.

I just downloaded The Witching Hour. I think it's fantastic. If you like ladytron you will really like this album.

The Jesus and Mary Chain - Psychocandy
Pixies - Doolittle
Jeff Buckley - Grace
Sparklehorse - Good Morning Spider

These are great choices. Sparklehorse, you may want to get It's a Wonderful Life, great album, it's quite different from Good Morning Spider. Great stuff. Doolittle, my second favorite Pixies album Surfer Rosa being the first.

I can only comment on Dinosaur Jr.

Green Mind is my D Jr. fav and I think a great choice to start with. Hope you like it too!

The ones in bold are fantastic. Jeff Buckley had an amazing voice, but his songs are vastly overrated by many people. I think if you don't have any other Super Furry Animals records, Rings Around the Earth might have been a better intro, although I do like Radiator. Tago Mago is one of the most accesible krautrock albums, but be ready for something different when you pop in Faust.

Looking over the recommendations so far, I think I am going to stick with Good Morning Spider and Doolittle (only cause it has Here Comes Your Man on it), but I am going to go ahead and try Rings Around the World for SFA. Reading the reviews on allmusic, I don't think I like the direction SFA is going, but Rings Around the World looks like a happy medium between Radiator and Phantom Power, perfect for starters (me).

The Faust album is actually Faust and Faust So Far in one. I don't have any krautrock albums so I had to choose between ...well you know. Faust and Can looked like a pretty good spectrum for just 2(3) albums.

You might also look at Ege Bamyasi. It's tied with Tago Mago as many people's favorite Can album. (And by "many people", I mean myself.)

I'd suggest switching these two out and bringing in Where You Been and It's A Wonderful Life respectively.

The Secret Machines are supposed to be fairly interesting. Buckley is almost a can't miss. Grandaddy are great and you should have some fun with SFA.

I've only heard one album by His Name Is Alive and it was AWFUL.

Alright. I switched to It's a Wonderful Life. Gonna stick with Green Mind though, I think. And uh, His Name Is Alive, well...I guess I'm going out on a limb but I think I will like them. You know, zeb, they have like 10 albums out or something, it's possible you heard thier worst one.

His Name Is Alive make nice background music, it's good but not exactly really involving stuff. No idea how anyone could get worked up enough about it to consider it awful.

You'd probably be better off looking for their stuff used though.

IAWL features some great guests. You should enjoy the ride.

Green Mind is a good album; no problems there.

I bought One Day My Blues Will Cover The Earth by His Name Is Alive based on some reviews I read online. The whole thing was very repetitive and I couldn't get into the vocals at all.

I'm really suffering with my music research with Delusions of Adequacy being down and all. I have to whine and beg for opinions here, its horrible!

I don't really see why. Doolittle is pretty much their masterpiece.

I would probably lean towards Surfer Rosa myself, but they're both great. As an introduction to the Pixies, you couldn't go wrong with either.
