They were on a cool label but everything about their image and the music just always seemed pretty uncool to me. Not many people talk about them now, so I'm assuming they lost their battle with cool, but really I just wonder whether they were ever cool in the first place.

Never heard of them. For some sick reason though, this reminded me of Neighborhood whatever, from Arcade Fire...now the neighbors can dance, disco lights, disssssssssco lights. Ok, that is kind of embarassing. I usually don't catch lyrics but apparently I caught those well enough.
