I'm leaning towards the US but if you can come up with a four or five good UK bands that aren't Radiohead then I could be swayed.

Good topic.

What are your restrictions? Can I count McCartney and the Stones?

Any band currently recording or touring for either team can play, as long as you only consider their output over the last, say, two years.

Franz Ferdinand
Kaiser Chiefs
Keane
Coldplay
Biffy Clyro
Snow Patrol
Athelete
Razorlight
Sterophonics
Iron Maiden
Artic Monkeys

So, I'd go with the UK at the moment. But, I'm in Europe anyway, so not in touch with the US scene. Which new bands there should I check out?

That's a real mixed bag you got there, Zephyr.

Aren't Keane kinda crappy and discarded?

U.S. but overall UK. You can't beat them, just way better.

Mark Lanegan Band
Sonic Youth
Ryan Adams
Modest Mouse

Wilco
Kayne West

Whichever one Antony & The Johnsons belongs to wins. British born, New York based, toss of a coin.

Canada wins though.

If people want to barrack for Canada as a third option that's cool by me. I just don't think they'll have the legs in the long run.

What can I say. I got a varied taste to accompany my various moods. I think 'Bedshaped' is a classic tune

Oh, and I should add 'The Proclaimers' to the list of bands

Actually, if you were to add in some things that I don't like, but are part of the UK scene, I think it gives the UK more reason to be number one

Joss Stone
Miss Dynamite
James Blunt
Robbie Williams
Craig David
Elton John
Paul McCartney
Kings of Leon
Bloc Party

Elton hasn't done anything for quite a while and I don't think anyone outside of Europe gives a shit about Robbie Williams.
Never heard of Miss Dynamite.

Not from me, no. But the list could continue, he could go on it. You could make a case for the Southern Hemisphere, Hinny.

The Datsuns
