This deserves it's own thread. Best game ever, no contest. When I was around 11 or so and my mom did daycare, this was the unifying game that all the kids could agree on playing, and to this day I think it has the most broad appeal for people under 30 of any game. Discuss the GOAT here.

Crash Team Racing for PS1 is a better game, I'm not kidding. Although I still give props to the originators.

One of the greatest games of all time. We used to have huge tournaments when we were kids.

Mario Kart 64 also deserves some props for its battle mode. That was a drunken favorite in university.

Me too. Although I recently played the latest Mario Party (7?) and I had to ditch Yoshi to give that pink egg shooting dude from SMB2 a try.

Mario Kart 64 was the best, but I loved the original.

N64 had the potential to be the best, however, i will forever hate ANY racing game where computer assistance keeps the race close, no matter how easy the setting.

on a related note, mario cart for DS is awesome

I'm still to this day a champ at all forms of Mario Kart. I haven't played the original or N64 version in a while, but Double Dash gets frequent play at my crib. Back in college you would have thought the N64 version was the only game in existence.

My first year in college all we could afford was a used Super Nintendo, so we had Mario Kart and...uh...F-Zero, I believe. My roomate slept all day while I went to classes, and then got drunk and came home at 1:00 and wanted to play Mario Kart all night. So I never ever slept.

I think it's the only video game I played, for more than 20 minutes, after the age of 13.

Hopefully the next Mario Kart game will allow on-line play. But what would be even better is if they set it up to where you could play the old ones on-line. That would be a huge part of my life going right down the drain there.

Count me in. Whenever my friends got together, we'd all play this. Damn it was fun. I used troopa koopa in the super nintendo version, and Toad in the 64 version.

Toad was the best in the N64 version.

I got pretty damn good at boosting into the shortcut tunnel through the rock wall in the beach level.
