TV Station Refuses To Air 'The Book Of Daniel'
POSTED: 9:08 pm EST January 4, 2006 UPDATED: 9:11 pm EST January 4, 2006
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- An Indiana television station is refusing to air NBC's new series, "The Book of Daniel," which debuts Friday.
On its Web site, WTWO in Terre Haute said its decision is "due to e-mails and calls from viewers."
"The Book of Daniel" is about an Episcopal priest with a drug-dealing daughter and two sons, one gay and the other promiscuous. The priest and his wife have substance abuse problems, and he's shown having regular chats with a hip, therapeutic Jesus.
The American Family Association's Don Wildmon predicts that viewer protests will prompt more stations to cancel the show.
"We are tired of NBC's anti-Christian bigotry," Wildmon said.
The WTWO general manager said he won't let the network "make unilateral decisions affecting our viewers."
Is it "anti-Christian" to write a show about a priest dealing with real life problems? Do no priests have gay sons? Slut daughters? Personal shortcomings? I mean, if the show hasn't aired yet, how do they even know that the priest won't deal with it in exactly the manner that the church says he should?

It's probably the portrayal of Jesus that pissed them off

How did these Christian groups get to watch this show before it aired. Did they just flip out over the synopsis, a commercial, or did they get to see the whole thing. It seems to be that a lot of groups that oppose a movie book album, etc. very rarely watch, read, or listen to what they oppose. I wonder if this is the case.

if these stations didn;t make a big deal out of this show, the show would get zero publicity or recognition. this show looks lame, and i bet it owuld have been off the air within a month.

It sounds like this is exactly what the network was going for.
Exactly.
An affiliate in Terre Haute refuses to show it? So what? Like 50,000 people will miss out and NBC gets tons of publicity for a show airing...tomorrow! How convenient!

And it also amazes me that people think that everyone in America thinks and feels the way they do about the world and religion, I just don't get it.

Well, there was that one Fear Factor where they tied a pastor to a stake and set a fire below him, forcing him to renounce God and hail the name of the mighty Jupiter and his god of war, Mars. But other than that I can't think of anything.
