Give me Master of Puppets and Load, and that's about the only Metallica I care to spin. The rest of the records are either uneven, poorly generated, utter crap, or too repetitive. At least Master has that unreal drive and Load is a little bit creative.

that's retarded. they should spread their wings and try working with someone one new. especially if that other person is rubin, just imagine what he could do with the band.

Watching Some Kind of Monster, you can tell that Bob Rock has basically decided that he is an actual member of Metallica, and they seem to have no problem letting him think that. He's the only person in the documentary who is a bigger parasite than their counselor and I guess since he brought the band it's greatest commercial successes, they're unwilling to let him go. It's too bad, they're in desperate need of a change.

Does anyone even care when Metallica releases albums anymore? If I had ever cared, that caring would have stopped in 1991.

exactly. metallica are unable to ever make a decent album. ever again. it's just not possible, no matter who the producer is.
their creativity and artistic merit has long since been extinguished.

Metallica are a great band. I still find the new material good, and they do a brilliant live show. Looking forward to any new album, and I don't give a fuck about who does or doesn't produce it

You can impossibly tell they wil never release a good album again. I will gladly admit they haven't done a good thing the last 15 years (although there were some good songs on Load-Reload), but you can't look into the future. Enough bands I had already written off, have surprised me with more than decent albums. So that's a mistake I won't make again.

I disagree. I haven't really liked a Metallica album since the Black Album, but it's Metallica. There is ALWAYS potential with this band.

I've never been able to understand why people like the black album so much...some great songs on there, but a lot of missteps and it's as hopelessly repetitive as the jugga-jugga riffs of most of their 80's work.

Load I really like, because it's varied and twisted and unafraid to take chances. Plus it grooves, which is something they should do more of.

yeah, i've come to realize that the black album is not as good as i once thought it was. there are a few good parts but other than that it's just a normal, decent album.

i'm with the ones who say most of their 90's-onward stuff sucked (i really like load though). however, i'm not really sure their talent is all gone. i would really like them to work with someone other than bob rock. rubin would've been great, but the fact it's not going to happen just decreases the odds of the next album being a good one, imo

You know, you may be right. I'm not sure if all their talent is gone as I'm willing to bet they still put on a hell of a live show and could possibly write another decent album. Their integrity, on the other hand, is long gone I'm afraid.
