Alright, this needs its own thread, since it's being mentioned in about eight others.

I argue that they are NOT. Getting sacks and pressures on the QB, and getting key spots against the run can be exciting, as well.

Depends on what kind of defense and how defensive both teams are.

If the Bears' offense was anything, I'd probably feel differently about this game. I've always found the Panthers, outside of Steve Smith, to be pretty boring to watch as well, so it isn't always about the defense.

If it's good defense and not just a sloppy game, I love it. I really enjoy watching a team stuff the run, blitz the QB and just fully confuse an offense.

That's a good point. If the defense is good, but only because the offenses are horrendous, that's not real fun to watch.

agreed. if its truly a defensive game, then i'm all for it.

but if its "defensive" because both teams offenses are sloppy as shit, then yes, it is boring.

well they can be both, alot of sacks and picks and big hits with little scoring is alot of fun to watch. but a ton of 3 and outs, each team has 100 total yards in the 4th quarter, and not many sacks or big D plays then ill probably change the channel or dose off

The sad thing is that rarely happens... more and more, "defensive slugfest" means shitty offense.

can a defensive struggle also include alot of scoring? because its always exciting as hell to watch the D take INTs and fumbles in for TDs(unless it is my team turning over the ball  )

For the reasons already stated, I think that defensive games are extremely exciting. But what I also like about them is that in a close, defensive game one big offensive play could mean a win or a loss. A strong defensive struggle between two teams makes the offense exciting as well, even if it's a low-scoring game.

It's boring if it's always like that. The Bears were boring this year. But the opposite is true too, high-scoring games all the time are boring like the Colts before this season.

Sacks and fumbles and strips and safeties are always exciting.

No. As long as the Packers win.

That's my feeling too. Same thing as a pitchers' dual or a 0-0 hockey/soccer game. One play can end it all. Kind of builds up the tension.

A defensive struggle can be a blast to watch, especially if your team is in on the hitting, but honestly, I like high scoring games better.

If given the choice, I'd watch a Colts vs. Chargers game, over a Bears vs. 'Skins game any day.

The fact that my dolphins haven't had an offense for a couple years is really sad.

i think defensive football games are better than high scoring games by far. granted "defensive football games" and "sloppy offensive games" are completely different.

I went to every Penn State home game and one away game in 2004.

they went 4-7 but kept every opponent under 21 points. I think only two got 21. The defense was amazing and I loved it. It wasn't always easy and I am sure it was because the offense was atrocious...but I loved it when the defense was on the field.
