Three things that make this different from the recent slew of crappy Hollywood horror remakes:
1. The film being remade could actually use a remake.
2. It is directed by a director that actually has some talent (Alexandre Aja (High Tension)).
3. The first cut recieved an NC-17.

If that's not promising, I don't know what is. After High Tension, I really have faith in Aja to deliver a deliciously visceral horror film that will delight veterans and fuck up the minds of novices.

An exciting read for those interested: http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=5411

High Tension was barely ok to me. However, so was the original Hills Have Eyes, so I'm looking forward to this one.

At least it had gore - something no other recent horror film can boast (except for Land of the Dead and Anchor Bay flicks). If anything, Hills should have plenty of that.

The original was pretty bad so he can't do much worse. And usually I hate remakes, but when someone takes a poor film and tries to make it better I'm always for them. I look forward to seeing it.

"Baby's fat. You fat...fat and juicy."

I don't think I've ever laughed harder at one line of dialogue in my life. I don't know what's funnier - the words or how the actor delivers them.

I thought the original was great.

I think the remake looks very promising.

I thought about posting something about this after seeing the trailer on Wolf Creek. As everyone else has said, it's a crapshoot. The original has plenty of room for improvement and Aja will hopefully bring the gore. Alas, it is a remake and one of the many that seems to have TCM written all over it. Here's hoping Aja keeps most of this one on the screen and not on the MPAA's cutting room floor and we may have ourselves a movie here.

Apparently, he is having to cut five minutes for an R rating. We'll get the full glory on the DVD, though.

Same here. It was actually pretty interesting to see the differences in the R and unrated versions of High Tension, maybe it will be this time too.

I've still not seen the version of High Tension that was released over here. The only thing I've got is the presumably unrated French dvd.

Some of the cuts almost upped the intensity in a way, principally...

*SPOILERS FOR HIGH TENSION*

...the dresser decapitation, which was cut off before any blood sprayed - all we saw was the head being crushed briefly. As much as I love to see that kroovy flow, it did seem a bit more realistic and cringe-inducing when it was cut.

I'd like to but I'm going to see it with some friends and the earliest we can all make it is Saturday night. But I'm definitely checking it out this weekend.
