now dont get me wrong
i love pj's new stuff but ther is one thing that has always bothered me since binural came out
Pearl Jam dont seem to be using marshall amps anymore..well i dont think they are
i want the old heavy sounding guitar with lots of gain
also i really cant stand the tone eddie uses on his guitar for songs such as lukin etc
sounds really metalic and i dunno i just wish they would go back to using marshall with the grunge sound
but all in all i love pearl jams new music and they should keep evolving
thats just my opinion

yeah, my biggest complaint with '03 and '05 PJ is the lack of distortion on everyone's guitar. mike brings it back for brain of j sometimes, but especially with stone and ed it's almost non-existant now.

Personally I like the music better without the distortion.

I can see your point and I agree to an extent but the current PJ is the best.

In tribute to their love of evolution, I'd have to say new PJ :)

Distortion / Feedback / cover up bad playing / let the feedback drown everything out.....

or get rid of it and show just how good you are at picking the axe.....

course then again, guys like Hendrix could light their guitars on fire and still make the feedback sound good.....

either which way, grunge died when they washed their flannels :P

Maybe to you, but not to me.

I still love grunge for all it is/was and I still find myself amazed by the talents of those bands that was labelled under this term!

For me, it is important to treasure this era and never forget it. This era produced some damn fine music and that is way more I can say about what's going on today!

I think that on the 2005 tour, the distortion is back, especially on Stone's side. 2003 is a "crunch". Anyway, it's not the distortion that makes the energy in the songs.

I like the current level distortion, it's a very clean sound, really shows the bands level of playing. I remember reading an article in which Peter Frampton was saying how he really digs the guitar playing of Pearl Jam becuase they don't drench their sound in distortion as the guys don't need that added punch.

i'm with you.. i think mike sounds good.. and ed's guitar is a great contrast with it's sound.. but i think stone sounded much better 2000.. on some songs, like RVM he should dist more.
