My all time favorite is the montage at the end of the first Karate Kid when he makes his way through the tournament while "You're the Best" is playing.

All of the Rocky training montages are tied for second IMO.

What are some other favorites?

Push it to the limit
Walk along the razor's edge
but don't look down, just keep your head
and you'll be finished

Open up the limit
past the point of no return
You've reached the top but still you gotta learn
how to keep it

Hit the wheel and double the stakes
throttle wide open like a bat out of hell
and you crash the gates
(crash the gates)

Going for the back of beyond
Nothing gonna stop you
there's nothing that strong
So close now you're nearly at the brink
so, push it

(Ooo yeah)

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)
Take it maybe one step more
The power game's still playing so
you better win it

Push it to the limit
(The limit)
With no one left to stand in your way
you might get careless, but you'll never be safe
while you still feel it

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)
Standing on the razor's edge
don't look down just keep your head
and you'll be finished

Welcome to the limit
(The limit)

Spiderman II's "Rain Drops Keep Falling on My Head" was pretty good.

This may be too obvious, but the first thing that comes to mind is the piano outro to "Layla" in Goodfellas when all of the dead bodies are being discovered. You'd think that piece of music was an actual score written for that part of the movie.

And how could we forget the montage in Team America that was set to the song "Montage." Funny, funny stuff.

Wayne's World where they play "All Night Thing" for a few seconds and the camera pans up to Benjamin's high-rise apartment.

Jim Gordon, the guy who wrote that section of Layla, went nuts and killed his mother in the eighties. He's in an institution now.

i forget, does the wedding scene in Godfather have a musical backing? i remember the cinematography being very...almost lyrical, in a sense, but i can't remember if there's music or not.

there is a movie called "Where the day takes you" and the end montage to Melissa Ethreridge's "You can sleep while I drive" is the best !

Great scene but that isn't a montage.
