Dude, I LIVE IN SEATTLE. Not western PA. Like I said, rooting for your hometeam is hardly bandwagon. I went to their games a few years back when they were sucking it. I didn't all of a sudden decide to like them during their 10 game win streak this year. They have players I've followed since they were in HS (Hutch, Alexander..etc) If I decided 5 years ago to be a Patriots fan, you'd have a case.
Peeps has declared that if you move to a town, cheering for their teams is bandwagoning.

my biggest fear while i was growing up and living in illinois (for most of my life) was that the cubs would win the world series, and i "wouldnt be invited to the party"... youre jumping on for the party and to be a part of it... sounds fine by me

I've not forsaken the Red Wings, Pistons, Tigers, or the UofM. I was never, ever a Lions fan because pro football ranked behind college hockey and minor league baseball as far as my interest.

I've found that a lot of people who move to Philly from another metropolitan or metro suburb rarely ever root for any of our teams but stay loyal to their hometown. That being said, I wouldn't call it bandwagoning at all. I would call it having pride in the city you live in and being a part of the community.

I agree as long as your team is out of it.......but you can't be as happy as if your real team wins. If you never had a team or grew up where there wasn't a team I think it is perfectly acceptable to adopt the team of your new city.

well, if I ever moved to say Philly or DC or Boston, I certainly wouldn't start rooting for the Eagles, Skins, or Sox.
But if I moved out to Phoenix or someplace similar, I'd probably become a casual fan of the Cardinals or Coyotes...except when they played my favorite NY teams.

I don't see any problem with people rooting for teams in their area. It's fun.
I root for the Dolphins and Yankees, but if/when they're eliminated from any playoff contention, I'll throw my support to another area team, like the Giants, Pats, or Red Sox (yes, I know a Yanks fan is supposed to hate the sox with a passion. I don't care). If someone moves to an area without so many teams to choose from, they should be able to root for them without being labelled anything.

I dont really root for any "home" teams, being in CT. I root for th Knicks and Devils, the only home town AREA teams. MY baseball team and football teams are way far away, for different reasons.
that being said, I cant even wear another teams hat most of the time, let alone root, really root for the Yankees or Mets or Giants, Jets... SOMETIMES i find myself wishing the Mets do well, or not being super pissed if the giants win and all my giants buddies are happy....
If I moved to Phoenix theres no way I could root for the Suns. I could go to the games and not care either way, but the Knicks would still be my one and only. and if I were to move to Chicago, well i wouldnt be able to get thru one single day without stopping on the way home from work to take a piss on the side of Chicago Stadium or shit in the parking lot of MJs restaurant.
