My tastes have been chaning lately and I've begun to lose interest in some bands I used to love.
Modest Mouse, for example, I used to love. I don't think they sold out or anything like that... but lately I just can't get into their music. I tried to listen to the Moon and Antarctica the other day and I wasn't feeling it.
Sparta, as well. I actually traded in Wiretap Scars a few days ago.
Alice in Chains. I only have their greatest hits. Used to listen to it all the time, but now it's lost its appeal.

I go through periods where Nirvana bores me and I won't listen to them for months. But I always wind up coming back to them with the same excitement I had when I heard them the first time.
It's normal, I think. Especially with the amount of different music you and I listen to.

I don't like some heavier bands as much as I used to. Also, as bulletproof said, I go through periods where I'm kind of bored (guess that's the right word) with a band. Usually from listening to them too much, but I always go back later with a fresh outlook.

I used to listen to Nirvana so often, but I haven't listened to one song in years.
Same thing with the Flaming Lips... I burnt myself out and, while I still dig them, I can't listen to them a lot.

I've lost alot of interest in all of the "grunge" bands. I rarely listen to AIC, it's been quite awhile since I've put a Soundgarden album on... I listen to Pearl Jam every now and then, but it's only once every couple of weeks...

I'm with you. Grunge has kinda been played out for a while for myself. I still went and saw PJ back in October, but i wasnt nearly as excited as the previous times. I usualy go through about 1 week out of the month where NOTHING intrigues me. I almost always go to the jazz station during that time because it's mostly "filler" muisc i guess...it's used more as background noise than anything.

I lost interest in tons of bands, but mostly PJ and Nirvana. I kind of got sick of Tool fast and won't listen to their music again, although Ill check out the new album.

There are some bands that I have lost interest in and probably will never listen to again. And then there are those bands that I have lost interest in at the moment but will return to them eventually. I found that instead of narrowing my music tastes I keep wanting to expand them and discover new artists.

I went through a big metal period in college, but it passed, and I only listen to a handful of those bands now. Most of it just doesn't stand out to me, but I honestly feel that way about all genres. There are only a few bands that attract me in every one. My favorites tend to be those that "cross-pollinate," so to speak.

i'm with you on the metal thing. I was huge into all the nu-metal kind of bands. and now I've got it narrowed down to the few that are actually worth listening to and the others i just don't even pay attention to.

Yeah, I tried the nu-metal path. I was very into Tool, Helmet, post-Arise Sepultura, etc., and since so much of nu-metal was influenced by them (among others), I started there. However, the landscape turned out to be pretty barren. Even Sepultura's Max Cavalera went south w/ the 2nd Soulfly album (still like the first one, though).

I usually go through what I call "one-month phases"; for about a month I religiously listen to a band, and then move on to another after something else comes out from another artist. For example, in Oct. I was listening to a lot of Nirvana in anticipation of the new box set; now I'm listening to U2 now thanks to "HTDAAB" and "The Complete U2" box set.
