Contains some new scenes that'll be incorporate into the movie.

Enjoy!

I sure hope there's more Boromir flashback scenes!

Looks awesome.

I HAD found it odd that they completely dropped Saruman from the theatrical version.

When the fuck is this coming out? I had originally heard it was scheduled for an August or September '04 release--earlier than the others, because they weren't shooting for a coordinated release with the next installment of the series theatrically.

It was a shame, but I found it to be a wise choice nonetheless. Character wise it would have made the movie less accessible to people who did not read the books. Keep in mind that including the saruman-at-the-fall-of-isengard scene would force the director to include the corruption of the shire; The return of the halflings to the shire and the rebuilding of the shire. Although I'd have loved to have seen these scenes, I have to agree with Jackson that they would not neccessarily have made a better movie.

All I wanted when I saw each movie was: MORE MORE MORE! But concessions had to be made and I for one agree almost completely with Peter Jacksons omissions and alterations of the original story.

Can't wait for the Extended edition though....

I don't know why you believe that, had they put the gandalf vs. saruman scene in the theatrical version, they would've had to put the scouring of the shire as well. Remember that in the EE.....

If i'm not mistaken, and i don't think i am, they make Saruman die at the hands of Wormtongue right after he is defeated by Gandalf atop the Isengard tower. So, there you go.

God, I can't fucking wait for this.

The Scouring of the Shire was never filmed, so Saruman wouldn't have died there anyway.

Wow!

I love that shot of Aragorn w/ the Palantir. And the scene w/ the Mouth of Sauron looks really cool.

i was watching this last night, i and although i don't like how it's 4 hours and the ending is dragged out, i think every scene in the end is needed.

even sam's wedding, which you'd think would be the one scene to be cut, you can already see frodo being sort of sad, knowing he's leaving.

It's funny you say that, because the regular edition was on Encore tonight, and after only watching the extended edition for the past year, I realized how much plot was missing, essential pieces. Aragorn with the Palantir, the Mouth of Sauron, the face-off between Gandalf and the Witch King. All of these add a tremendous amount to understanding the story.

The extended version is still missing Aragon "suiting up" before going off to the black gates. I think the movie, as is, is a bit "off" in that section, because there's never really a scene where Aragon finally accepts the fact that he is king. It goes from the victory on the Pellennor, right to marching off to Mordor. It was definitely filmed, so I'm not sure why it's not in there.

The scene where Elrond meets Aragorn at the camp is where he finally accepts his role as king and he gets the sword. It's not a grandios suiting up scene like Theoden had in the Two Towers, but it is the scene where he finally accepts his role.

The Return of the King may be my favorite book of all time. The definition of epic.
