Goddamn, what a fun movie that was. The violence is so ridiculously over the top, and it's such a great premise. It's like a Japanese "the Running Man" on speed with more blood. I liked it.

It's a brilliant movie, easily watchable, well shot, and some great use of surrealism and satire. Some the scenes have a very special quality, such as Takeshi doing exercises along to the loadspeaker in the empty exercise yard.

What? They made a movie?

I read this book and loved it. It was so ridiculously entertaining. When did this come out? Is it just playing in select theaters?

You serious? It was released in 2000, and a sequel was made in 2003.

No I had no idea they made a movie of it. I'll have to check it out. That book is classic.
