I am just happy that Utah has a professional football team, even if it's in the AFL. But Arena Football is enjoyable to watch, very high scoring.

Just thought I would start an RM thread about the AFL season.

Here is the website:
http://www.arenafootball.com

And I also wanted to start this thread to celebrate the first ever franchise victory for the Utah Blaze, with a win over the San Jose SabreCats 48-35.

Austin has one of these teams, and despite the "fast paced nature" of this game and the "narrowed goal posts," it is the most boring incarnation of any game in existance. I cannot sit through 5 minutes of Arena Football, even in the doldrums of spring sports.

Its just so easy to score in arena football, which to me, makes it boring.
Plus, none of the players are that well know, which takes away from some of the level of interest.

They should. It would keep players like Tommy Maddox out of the NFL.

I went to a Grand Rapids Rampage game once. I spent more time getting beer and nachos, and talking with friends than actually watching the game. I barely remember any of the actual action. It's amusing at first, but I didn't enjoy it nearly enough to watch repeatedly.

I had completely forgotten that I'd actually been to an arena football game until you mentioned that. The game went pretty much the same for me. The Destroyers let Buffalo anyway, so I wasn't alone in my apathy.

It's a shame that NBC and McMahon fucked this up so badly, a second outdoor football league would be great for the post Super Bowl doldrums.

I've tried my best to like and even forced myself to sit through Arena Football and it really is putrid. I'd rather watch golf or NASCAR.

Was it really their fault? I don't think it would have caught on no matter what. The average American doesn't want to watch wannabes that can't make the NFL, no matter if there are "odd" rules and strippers posing as cheerleaders.

I really think it could've worked if they didn't hype it as a replacement for the NFL ( ), didn't put it on SATURDAY NIGHTS (seriously, who is home watching sports then?), and didn't rush the start of it so that the players had no time for exhibition games and barely any time for training camps (and thus the product was far from its best the first time the fans saw it).

I don't think the inferior style of play was the problem, it was still superior to college football which people love. I believe it would've worked if they put it on weekend days and let it grow slowly. Aside from March Madness there's nothing much out there for sports fans between the Super Bowl and Opening Day.

The Las Vegas Gladiators lost their game today. Booo. I've been to a few of their games and I liked it quite a bit. I'm going to try to go to some more games this season.

Even with how boring this sport is, I'm still going to start up a blog for the Dallas Desperados... that's how bored I will be this off-season.

I'm going to the first home game for the Utah Blaze at the Delta Center this Saturday, and they are going to play the Dallas Desperados.

Should be fun, for my first ever Arena Football game.

I know nothing about the team. This site is going to be a real winner.

You can't go wrong with animated gifs.

they totally rushed things. None of the teams had enough time for a decent training camp, and the quality of play was brutal right out of the gate. If they had made it more of a "minor league" sprinkled with well-known college players who couldn't make it on the next level, I think it could have done decent ratings and sustained itself.

The Georgia Force have a solid team again this year, I was at the game last saturday night and I will be at the rest of the home games this season. Hopefully we will be making the trip out to vegas again this year.
