Everyone knows this already, but I thought it was interesting nonetheless. All of these "news" topics could be found on the front page of CNN.com on November 28th at 10PM. I thought I would take all of the topics and divide them into two categories, just to see the results. Category 1 is JUNK / ENTERTAINMENT NEWS, while category 2 is what I would consider to be true news that has some value. It's amazing the amount of crap that we're fed on a daily basis. I count 21 JUNK STORIES, and 14 REAL NEWS STORIES. That equals 40% NEWS, and 60% JUNK. I go to other sources for news, but I just thought that was interesting, since CNN.com is such a big, well-known site. Anyway, no big surprise, just thought I would share. This is why I don't watch my local news anymore either, they're even worse.

I think you're right for the most part, but you have to remember, it is Sunday, and it's always filler on CNN on Sundays. Shit, look at any Sunday newspaper. 90% junk.

not that i have any proof or source or anything but i heard alot of times that CNN is one of the biggest liars in all media news companies and nobody should trust them
not surprise at all, you should try this with some other news site, some of them are even worse. CNN is like a no fat/diet news station.

I agree with you for the most part, though as New York Streets said, I wouldn't consider the story Democrats: Help the Hungry to be junk. (or the tiger skin trade either) - the rest, agree.
I don't watch much TV news, though I like C Span, and the Sunday morning news programs are usually a little more serious. Reading news is more satisfying.

I think this is kind of bias breakout. Even though the topics were on the front page, the stories were "see page" in the appropriate section of the newspaper. Like any other "table of contents" guiding the user to the appropriate part of the newspaper.
With that said, I do think the newspapers are filled with to much junk. Knowing, Julia Roberts had twins is not news worthy to me. These type of things can be kept in the trade and rag magazines.
hail, helping the hungry is a "good" thing, regardless of ones political affilation.

I could not disagree more.
hailhailkc, I definitely agree with you on in respect to how the priority of some news is out of whack. The most egregious examples of this are the "human interest" stories like the Scott Peterson trial that should really not be given much more attention than on the local level.

I agree it's good to help the hungry...I just thought it sounded like a fluff piece. I really wasn't trying to be biased with that one, I agree with you. Same with the tiger skin, I suppose that has some value to it.

REAL NEWS
• Political tensions simmer at ASEAN
• Summit reviews land mine ban -- This important to me because??? Never knew Boulder had land mines???
• Torture victims to be compensated
• Weather delays thousands of holiday travelers -- No it didn't. Denver got over a foot of snow and there were only delays in Salt Lake City because they got even more snow. This topic is full of it.
• Paper: Nichols confessed to key role in bombing -- Ohhh. This is news. Even blind men could see this one coming.
• Mining accident: 25 dead, 141 missing | Video -- There not missing, there just in the mine. Duh!
• Torture victims in Chile to be compensated -- Didn't we have this headline already. See above.
• Ukrainian presidential rivals urge non-violence | Video
• Missing pilot found alive in Alaska -- I hope there are alot more alive pilots in Alaska otherwise it would be hard to fly there. • Strong quake hits Japan -- Japan gets hit with earthquaks once a month.
• FDA reviewing records on Baycol -- I'd hope so.
• States take drug safety into own hands -- Drugs are bad. Eat an apple.
• Immigrant-smuggling trial set to start -- This is important how??
• Rice hearings set for January -- Anyone oppose? If not lets carry on then.[/i]
