I do quite a bit of running and don't remember anybody else on this board that has ever discussed running.
I usually run every other day for about 4 to 5 miles at a pace of about 7 minutes a mile. I love the feeling of freedom and independence I get from just taking off and not coming back for 30 minutes or so. I work in an office all day, so getting outside and breathing fresh air is a welcome change to sitting at a desk and staring at a computer all day long.
Any other runners out there?

I only run when I play sports, otherwise I find it an absolute chore. I get so bored after 5 minutes and find myself thinking "this fucking blows" from that point until I am finished. I usually stop after 20 minutes with a "fuck this".
My wife loves running but stopped because she got spooked during her 5:30am run a couple months ago. I thought she was nuts for going out running at that time anyway.
Oh, and running kills my knees and lower back. I just do the elliptical machine now......that thing is a hell of a workout.

I forgot to mention that my wife keeps trying to get me to run with her, just so she can run, since she doesn't feel safe out there by herself. I told her there's just no way I can do it.....first because I couldn't keep up with her and second because I hate running, which I mentioned before. She suggested I ride a bike next to her which sounded a bit ridiculous to me.

what exactly happend to creep her out?
i used to run up at the track with my friend jen who was the stereotypical blonde. she was cute has hell, an above average rack and well, not to big in the common sense department.
i used to challenge her that i could run faster running backwards then she could regular. she never knew why i would challenge her

2 days in a row she saw a blue pickup at various spots throughout her run, she said it seemed like the guy was following her. The one day she said it was parked at the end of our street when she got finished (we live 3 houses from the corner) and was still there when she was leaving for work so she came and told me. I asked her if she wanted me to go out to the truck and say something but she said no. She hasn't gone out running since.

thats fucked up, ever see it since?
I know.....I have been keeping my eye out but haven't seen it and I don't think it's owned by someone in my neighborhood. I haven't even asked her about it in a while.
When I told her I would go up and say something she said "what if he has a gun?" I said "Then I will apologize for bothering him and move along". She didn't think it was a good idea with my temper and the gun possibility.

Hahahaha, I actually have a 400k policy on myself for her. She has none, if anything happened to her, god forbid, I'd be in a bit of a pickle. It's on her "to do" list.
...and to keep the running topic going. Someone told me better sneakers will prevent your knees from hurting when running. Is this true?

i wear lowtops when i do the eliptical machine at the gym. i usally get in about 4000 strides in 25-30 minutes. i feel no pain
i wear mid tops to play bball in ( i cant find legit 80's style hightops ) and the next morning, youd think id need both knees and hips replaced by the way i walk the first half of the morning, this happens every tuesday - saturday

My knees start getting really sore and stiffening usually in the last 5 minutes of every game I play, after games and the next morning are hell. I've had to cut down my playing time during games because of it, I'm usually the first person to call for a sub each half (rest the knees for a bit plus I'm pretty out of shape lately).
My friend swore it was my sneakers so I bought a pair of 130 dollar basketball sneakers and it made no difference. I went and bought another good pair, different brand, last year, no difference.

I don't know what type of surface you are playing Basketball on, but if it is concrete, I believe your knees will hurt big time. If you are playing on a wooden court and your knees still hurt, you probably should limit your playing time and try less impact work outs.
I am a firm believer in having the right kind of shoes for running. For some reason, I just fell in love with the Nike Shox. I think they look kind of silly to wear in public, so I only wear mine when I run, but they are really comfortable to run in.
As far as the boredom goes, I think I would be bored if I didn't have my iPod with me. It makes a huge difference to have all of your favorite songs running with you.
