Except for Crash receiving so many nominations, the Academy actually did a nice job with their picks this year IMO. 3 nominations for Clooney? Good for him. The man went from being a Hollywood whore to an artist. It should be an interesting show.

obviously everyone knows the oscars are just a fucking popularity contest, but that being said I was really happy to see the nominations of:
George Clooney, Syriana
Terrence Howard, Hustle & Flow
William Hurt, A History of Violence - out of left field
Matt Dillon, Crash - Dallas forgetaboutit
Paul Giamatti, Cinderella Man - make up for getting screwed out of sideways nomination last year - "I am not drinking any fucking merlot"

Why does Judi Dench get nominated for either an Oscar or a Golden Globe every single year for acting like Judi Dench? Is it the accent? Does that throw people off?

I'm betting the Academy gives him the Oscar to make up for that blunder last year. But he deserves it anyway -- his performance in Cinderella Man was terrific.

yeah i had very low expectations for that movie, and ended up pleased
BTW Crash aint a great movie, and is a little overly cliched, but the performances were pretty good

how did walk the line get snubbed for trash like crash and good night and good luck
i wont even bother to watch, the fag movie is a shoe-in now
You think Good Night and Good Luck is trash? The fact that it, along with Capote, received the critical acclaim it deserves despite not being produced with a billion dollar budget or widely distributed is actually refreshing.
To answer your question, though, the movie (and Capote) is really, really good.

Best Picture:
Brokeback Mountain ----> Haven't seen it, critics say it's really good
Crash ----> great film, but I don't know if it's great enough
Munich ----> awesome film, I would give it to this one

To elaborate on my last post, the first time I saw a preview for "Ray", weeks before it even came out. I turned to the people in the room with me and said "I guarantee he wins best actor for that", said it to a bunch of friends shortly after. I believe I posted the same on here. I never did see that movie but turned out to be right.

That was released in 2006.
