Just some confirmation.

Kubrick Special Editions: Four films - 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut - all mastered in standard and high defintion (released in both formats on day & date). Eyes Wide Shut features the international cut of the film, fully restored and mastered for DVD.

Hmmmm, it's good I bought 2001 for cheap cause I might buy the SE too.
They better go all fucking out on these sonso'bitches. They've kept us waiting long enough. I mean, just the transfers alone on 2001 and ACO are really shitty. There is SO much red/blue distortion in 2001. It's just sad.

I want some more extras too, the 2001 DVD is really lacking. I bet the behind the scenes would be pretty interesting.
You're guaranteed a documentary. They better include how Kubrick achieved some of those effects. I still can't figure 'em out. Blows my mind. I'm not quite sure what else they could include, as no deleted scenes exist and I can't really think of anyone who could deliver a commentary. It'd be kind of interesting if they also included a second audio track containing Alex North's score.
Still, I'd be satisfied with a two-disc with ultra-badass packaging and a crazy good transfer.

I've read about some of them, and it's pretty amazing how low tech they were. For example, the "floating pen" effect was achieved by adhering the pen to a peice of lucite and moving it in front of the camera. I've heard that on a high def transfer it's actually possible to see the surface of the lucite.
It's also funny to me how much people talk about Star Wars's effects when 2001's were so much better and the two films were made at around the same time.

I'm all about this. Of course I've already bought most of the bare-bones editions, but as long as they make it worth the cash I'd happily throw down for these again.

Yeah, I own all four, will buy the new editions, and don't regret a thing.

FYI: there are deleted scenes, but Kubrick made it clear he wanted them to never see the light of day.
Yep. Rumor: he destroyed them himself.
He also bought every copy of his first film so no one would ever see it. I love him but he had some weird tendencies.
I know, and that does kind of frustrate me, as I obviously would love to see it. However, there's no one I respect more, so I'll honor his wishes (unless I find a bootleg, of course ).
Did you know he also owned the rights to Traumnovelle (the book Eyes Wide Shut is based on) for many years prior to shooting and had purchased every existing copy of the book so no one else could read it? We're talking many, many years here.

I didn't know it was based off a book, but it makes sense since everything else he did was. "Traumnovelle" means "Dream Novel" in German, I should check that book out, if there are some copies out now that is.

There are.
And yeah, it's alternate title is Rhapsody: A Dream Novel. It was written in 1926 and, if I'm not mistaken, it's actually set in the seventeenth century. I think.

I own a copy from the Penguin Classics of the 20th Century series.

Cause Kubrick had much more money at the time than George Lucas.

Star Wars was made 8 years after 2001.
