This whole thing is stupid. I hate to say it but what do you expect to happen when you make one of the worst racial slurs into a slang term for "buddy"
If it's offensive for white people to use it should be offensive for black people to use.
nigger, nigga or niggah should have no place in anyone's mouth.
I don't care who you are, the use of the word shows just how stupid you are

Acutally i was referring to the SNL skit ... if you notice it's a link
I agree ... it seems hypocratic to say it's ok for one person to say i to but not another.

*sigh*
The way it's used among friends makes perfect sense. I can say it to my black friends all I want because they know it's a greeting thing and a funny expression and they're cool with it. No one takes it seriously, and it's not a problem in the right setting. Using it in a certain context makes it a different word. A lot of people just don't seem to get this.

Pffft. That dumb kid probably got a bad grade.
I stand by the teacher with this one 100%. Can someone please explain to me why black people use "Nigga" so frequently...and then have the gaul to be offended by it??

Nate, what a lot of people don't seem to get is the idea that white people saying "Yeah I get the feelin' them there niggers over at the gas station were fixin' to rob the joint" and a black person saying "What's up nigga?" are two completely separate entities. If you're white and you think that just because black people use it, that you have right as well, you're either a racist, an idiot, or don't understand the nature of the word.
White people saying it is racist, black people saying it is an attempt to strip the word of its power. No, just because black people say it doesn't mean you have the right to. I have two friends that were born in Poland. They make Polish jokes to each other all the time and, if one said something stupid, the other might say something like "Well, what do you expect? He's a dumb Polak." However, if anyone outside of their immediate group of friends were to call them that, it would be a source of tension and awkwardity because they haven't attained the right (through a trusting relationship) to use such a term comfortably. Much like I've got black friends, that don't mind close, white friends using "nigga" as a term of endearment.
I'd never say it in the presence of any black person, regardless of relationship, but I'm not going to suggest that it should be removed from a certain group's lexicon, especially when they've had to deal with it as an insult for their entire lifetime.
The white people that complain about black people using the n word are the same people that bitch about the existence of things like BET and the United Negro College Fund. Well, fuck you. Turn on NBC if you want all-caucasian sitcoms. It doesn't have to have "white" in the title for it to be completely targeted at white audiences.
But I digress. It's always been a disgusting word. Why not give control to the victims of the word and let them dictate the use of it?

Bammer, just go back to your small, small world where being a white man (particularly a Seahawks fan) is a difficult, unjust role, put on some Crossfade and pull the sweatband back down over your eyes.

What I don't understand is why some of black culture's use of the word offends white people so much. Do you all really want to use it that badly? A word is really just a word until there's some sort of context; it's always argued that there's a double-standard. Not really. Call your friends 'cracker' all you want. No one will care. Do you want to be able to call your white friends 'nigga'?
White people being pissed that black people say the world just reeks of pseudo-racists feeling that they're having power taken away from them and it's quite sickening.

What about "brother" or "bro"? They're not derogatory words unto themselves, yet it would probably be seen as racist if a white guy started addressing a group of black strangers with them. I guess it's all in the context.
"Oooooh...look at the cute little bastard... you are mama's little bastard, aren't you?"

Essentially, the way many black men refer to each other as "brother" is in the context of "brother in race." It's more of a community thing, essentially. At least it used to be, not so much anymore. I don't think it would cause too much of a stir to call them "bro."
Walking into a group of black strangers and saying "bro" might get some strange looks and glares.
Walking into a group of black strangers and saying "What's up, niggers?" will get your fucking ass beat.

so your contention is that granting different races different rights and privledges is the solution to ultimate eqaulity?

seems counter productive.
I agree Edzeppe.
It's ridiculous that the American society has already moved in the direction of grznting certain races rights and privileges. Especially in the U.S. with programs such as Affirmative Action and Hate Crime legislation.
You can blame Americans, the Government and the media for that.
