As you may know, a recount of the vote in Ohio has been petitioned for by the presidential candidates of the Green and Libertarian parties. The Ohio Democratic Party has now joined the effort.
Unfortunately, Ohio's secretary of state, Kenneth Blackwell, has decided that the recount cannot start until Dec 6., the date when the vote will be certified. Dec. 13 is the day the Electoral College votes, leaving only one week for the recount.
Provisional ballots are still being collected, and of course those can not be recounted until they are in, but can anyone find any reason why the recount shouldn't begin for the votes that are already in?
Blackwell spokesman Carlo LoParo said the recount hasn't started because the ballots haven't been counted.
"It would be an amazing feat to recount something that hasn't yet been completely counted," LoParo said.
That's insane. By phrasing the votes as "something", as in a singular object, LoParo claims to make a logical argument. But of course votes are plural... and the recount applies to each individual vote, not the votes as a collective... therefore, it would not even remotely be an "amazing feat" to recount the votes that have already been counted.
Clearly, Blackwell is either idiotic or up to no good.
It should be noted that Blackwell was Bush's campaign manager in Ohio.
(Hmm... just like fmr Sec. of State Katherine Harris was Bush's campaign manager in Florida in 2000...)
More info about the recount can be found here at David Cobb's website:

Do you really think that a recount would even come close to turning around Ohio? If it was, then we'd be seeing a lot more aggressive progress on it, like in Florida.
That being said, I'm all in favor of a recount, but it shouldn't be limited to just Ohio. I bet every state has some voting error that happened.

I don't think the election result will change, but I guess there's a chance.
If you look at David Cobb's site, he and Badnarik have now filed for a recount in Nevada and New Mexico. A recount in New Hampshire is underway thanks to a $2000 check from Ralph Nader.

I think it has more to do with uncovering voter fraud, like a county saying there was a nonexistant terrorist threat so they had to cunt the votes behind locked doors without anyone else around, votes being counted twice,a ccidentally of course, miscallibrations with voting machines...all of which defy the laws of statistics going to Bush;s favor instead of a more even 50/50 error rate for both Bush and Kerry

OK, maybe my last post was too flippant, but CommonWord, what is so bad about wanting to make sure the election was accurate?
if kerry won, would you be this adamant about a recount?
please dont respond, youre only lying to yourself
To be honest, I probably wouldn't clamour for a recount, but I wouldn't disregard it.
I'd say Kennedy wasn't really elected, and there have been many other fraudulent elections to get Democrats into office. Their political machine is no better than the Repulicans'.

Give it a rest. We voted for the town idiot.. again. Half of us are going to deserve what Bu$h has in store for us. There was voter frued on both sides. Voter freud should not be a concern. Half of us being idiots should be the concern. Why are these election so close?, if people pulled their heads out of their asses, we'd elect a leader with a majority of the votes and no questions to ask.

Before you accuse us of it, you better learn how to spell it, jackass.

Nah, because the recount isn't about voting errors, which are inevitable, it's about potential fraud.
For example, people have claimed that they hit the touchscreen space for Kerry and the screen jumped so that they hit Bush instead.

I seriously don't.
I stand corrected then

Why the fuck are video games so advanced and we can't figure out an accurate way to count votes? We go to the moon but we can't count fucking votes. Unbelievable.
The real problem is that citizens aren't angry enough about how elections are done and are too angry about the resulting bullshit. It's like leaving a pizza in the oven for 2 days and being mad about eating the burned meal. Fuck, fix your oven.

fix their oven? The frozen pizza I get only takes 10-20 min, not 2 days
but i agree with you on everything else
