I really like the low guitarriff that kicks around 1:00; is this guitar or a distorted bass? Killer sound though, never hear them doing this live.

Jeff's bass in the jam at the end is much clearer in the studio version, and I love it. The drums too.

All around, I prefer it live, but a great song nonetheless. My favorite on No Code, and one of my favorites in general.

Ha, I guess I misread your post (so much for me).

Don't know about the riff, as I'm not a musician, but they do play it live. They opened with it in Atlantic City, which was incredible. I think they've played it at 3 of the 10 or so shows i've been to.

It's indeed the guitar,
and they do play it live, but it sounds quite different. The guitar sound on the studio version is much more "bassy" than live.

I prefer the studio version of pt because ed always fucks up on guitar at the end of the song. he needs to stop playing on this song.

I dont know why they haven't tried this song on any of their acoustic sets. I really appreaciate the intimacy of the studio version...

I know that they play it live, but I was wondering if they ever played it like the studioversion with that low sound:)

Not from what I've ever heard. If they did, though, I'd sure like to know when and where.

What does the singing say near the end? I see the light? Could even sound like Lady Godiva

I don't think it's lady godiva. I've always wondered about that and never remember to ask.

I've seen it live a few times. It's very good--but like Yellow ledbetter I like the less distorted studio versions.

Saw it live Charlotte 2000

My favorite version (besides the studio) St. Louis 2003.

Matt's approach is very different from Jack's on this song. When the song kicks in, Matt pounds the ride cymbal like a constant beating jack hammer; it's pretty cool IMO.

I've always thought they should have jammed on this song more when playing it live.

my favorite part in this song is the acoustic guitar that comes in with the lyric "it seems that needlessly its getting harder...."

love it!

i was also thrilled when they played it at my first show. :D
