any suggestions. I write for a internet music magazine, http://www.whatcharockin.com (click on the link and check out the Live at Benroya Hall review), and we're putting together our list of best albums of 2004. So far, my picks for top two are:

Mos Def The New Danger

Wilco A Ghost is Born

What albums do you think I should check out or at least consider before we publish our best of 2004 feature? Feel free to reply and rip my choices, or the site if you don't like what you see.

Green Day- American Idiot

Hands down, the best album of the year. Wilco's would be my second favorite.

shock, coming from me, i know 8) ...but the album really does hold up very well against anything else that has been released this year.

The Exit - Home For an Island

I cant stop listening to this...and i've tried.

It takes one hell of a band to be able to open for Muse and still be remembered after the show.

Dragonforce - Sonic Firestorm

Seriously, even if you mildly like metal, you will love this.

Eric Clapton: "Me and Mr. Johnson"

Those are my favorites of this year, at least... :D

Since you named two, I'll name two.

My first choice, pamplemousse said --> Me and Mr. Johnson - Eric Clapton

Second is tough, but I would go with:

Live 1964 - Bob Dylan

If that doesn't count then:

Around The Sun - REM

this week i've been getting more into around the sun than in the past. i realized that 'the final straw' is actually quite on par with anything on AFTP, with the rest of the album being quite unique. the album is certainly growing in me.

as for the dylan, of course it counts! and a damn good release this year. 8)

Yeah, Around The Sun is great. I liked it a lot from first listen. The Ascent of Man is such a great song! And I can't argue with your assessment of The Final Straw.

I wasn't sure if Live 1964 was going to count since it's live because some people only want studio releases.

Elliott Smith - From a Basement on a Hill
runner up-
Walking Concert - Run to Be Born <----- check this out if you haven't

and about green day i love green day, but i don't get how they can stop sounding like green day and start sounding like sugarcult who is not as good and get props from everybody... i know they jumped on the political bandwagon and everything but that doesn't make a record good, just like my rampant use of run on senctences doesn't make this easier to understand

but bottom line american idiot = good = not great = not album of the year

some of my favs were:

mark lanagen- bubblegum
sonic youth- sonic nurse
interpol-antics
wilco- a ghost is born

I liked TV on the Radio's album don't think i would consider it the best. IT did win the shortlist it might be worth a listen for consideration. Also I liked Modest Mouse's album Good News For People Who Love Bad News. Although I don't think it should be in like the top 5 or anything it might warrent a top 10 or at least a top 20 apperance.
