Did anyone else catch Bryant Gumbel on this week's Real Sports waxing philosophic about the Olympics?

I hope it was just an attempt at being funny because otherwise it was really odd. Here's his beef with the Winter Games:

“Finally, tonight, the Winter Games. Count me among those who don’t like them and won’t watch them … Because they’re so trying, maybe over the next three weeks we should all try too. Like, try not to be incredulous when someone attempts to link these games to those of the ancient Greeks who never heard of skating or skiing. So try not to laugh when someone says these are the world’s greatest athletes, despite a paucity of blacks that makes the Winter Games look like a GOP convention. Try not to point out that something’s not really a sport if a pseudo-athlete waits in what’s called a kiss-and-cry area, while some panel of subjective judges decides who won … So if only to hasten the arrival of the day they’re done, when we can move on to March Madness — for God’s sake, let the games begin.”

The first weird thing is the beef with people trying to link these games with the ancient games. Well no shit Bryant, the Greeks didn't ski, you're a genius. They also didn't play ping pong but that doesn't mean it's not part of world competition.

To say that the Winter Olympics don't have the best athletes because there aren't any black downhill skiiers or black ice skaters is just retarded. It implies that somehow there's an effort to keep blacks out of winter sports. Everyone knows that's not the case. It's really just that blacks are afraid of water, even frozen water.

Hey Gumbel, they mean "greatest athletes in their sport".

The athletes today are not nude either, but perhaps that is his beef. The guy wants to see a bunch of nude people running around on Skis and skates and you know what, if that's the case, you count me among the malcontents.
