Does anyone wish Pearl Jam was a little less democratic in terms of songwriting?
Then we could have been saved from the likes of Evacuation, God's Dice, Help Help, Cropduster, Pilate Get Right etc etc
I'm sorry but I really feel Ament may of dried up as a writer. Hated all his stuff on Riot Act, and while Nothing As It Seems was great, God's Dice was truly horrible.
Cameron is a drummer. Only You Are deserved its place on a PJ record.

I couldn't disagree with you more... those songs are what gives Pearl Jam its flavor... otherwise it would be the Eddie Vedder show, and although his lyrics are great some of his music is well... simple at times. Normal chords can get boring.
I tend to agree. Only because I think Stone has written about 90% of the songs that I would call my all-time favorite PJ songs, he only wrote two on Riot Act, and Riot Act is in my opinion among their weakest albums.

I like the direction they're heading. Jeff and Matt contribute some cool stuff to the albums. Even Riot Act. Although it's not the strongest songwriting they've ever had.

i would absolutley love an album full of ed and stone songs. i tend to agree that jeff is on the decline, but nais was amazing and help help is, well, its easily the most different sounding song from everything else on riot act, so i give him points for trying. i still think he has another lowlight or nothingman left in him. matt on the other hand, i've never liked any of his songs.

i normally pay little attention to who wrote what, and just appreciate it as a whole. i have to disagree with you because i think the songs mentioned above are great. in fact i LOVE gods dice, pilate & get right.

matt cameron owns. and i would appreciate more of his writing. thats the dead truth folks. he fucking rocks harder than judas preist on sunday. in my opinion, he is the only one writing INTERESTING music lately.
now yes, I AM MINE is one of my all time favorite,s along with all or none etc...
but matt adds interesting guitar work, kickass guitar work to pearl jam. otherwise lately all we would be getting is 3 chord wonders and power chords...

God's Dice rocks! Low Light is another great Ament-song. 1/2 Full isn't too shabby either.
Only song I'd partially agree with you on is Help Help.

Matt and Jeff have written some good songs, but they've also written a bunch of crap. If it is everyone writes or the break up this is a no brainer, but there best songs are the ones where they have at least two people collaborating and Eddie writing the lyrics. If Get Right, God's Dice, Help Help, etc. had better lyrics they would be stronger songs. Likewise, the music for Pilate and No Way is awesome, but the lyrics are lame. Eddie is the only one who writes consistently good songs solo (in my opinion) but there best stuff is what they do together.
we all have our favorite writers in the band, but the I believe that the democracy in the band is what keeps them going...just like a marriage, you need to spice things up. pj needs to change things up every now and then and keep all the members involved.
