I'd heard some good things about these guys so I picked up In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3. There are a few good tracks, but i'm finding the high pitched singing a bit too much. I have a feeling if i listen to it more than it may grow on me.

Was this the best album to get, or should I have gone with another?

I bought that cd too. Saw em live. Good stuff (lyrically and musically), although extremely emo.

I fucking love their last album. The title is too long to remember or type.
I hate all of their back catalogue. I always dismissed them as one of those bands that would play on the Warped tour (which they did). Turns out after looking back into their catalogue I was right. I think everything they've done up until the newer album is awful.
The last record sounds kinda progressive but really reminds me of the Police. Not the reggae style but the pop sensibility. The choruses are interesting musically but also very catchy. I cannot say enough good things about it. It's been in my car for at least 4 months.
I didn't like it at first. I think the best way to describe the vocals would be to equate it to Axl Rose. Technically, he can sing very well. His timbre may not be palatteable to most. If you listen though, the vocal style is original and interesting. His use of harmony is excellent. After about the 3rd listen, I finally "got it".
Here's hoping that they only improve and become more musical from here.

Yeah, that's it. No way I could remember a title like that. You should get it. It's cheap as hell. Most places have it for $12 or so. I even surprised myself by liking that album so much. I didn't think I would but it's just damn good rock. I haven't heard that in years. Certainly a refreshing change from the skinny tie gang or the dear diary fruit music that passes for rock these days.

I fucking love them. They definitely have gone in a different (and better) direction with their latest album. I saw them back in October and they were amazing.

I fucking love coheed.

There was some decent stuff on there, but nothing that piqued my interest enough to blow me away. I'll have to crack that puppy out again though for another round. One thing I did enjoy that I haven't listened to in ages was Chaos AD. I forgot how amazing that record was. In fact I went out and bought it a few weeks ago.

Oh, and this newest Coheed and Cambria record is light years better than the one that I bought. Thanks for the recommendation

Mike,

I cannot stress enough how much I think Devin Townsend is the most incredible artist of the last decade. If you give him a chance with an open mind, I think you will have your mind totally blown.
Ocean Machine and Terria are 2 of my favourite albums ever by anyone. They are albums though and must be experienced as such. For an amazing song, try "Truth" from Infinity. It is probably the most powerful song I have ever heard. It needs to be played loud though.

I'm glad you enjoyed the Coheed album. It really is a night and day change from their older stuff isn't it?

bad, but that's based mostly on the fact that I just cannot dig that dudes voice. And i've heard them enough to where it had to have grown on me by now.

But for the most part, i just posted in this thread to express my surprise at antiyou liking coheed & cambria.

you definitely should have gone with Good Apollo. It's a much better album all around and probably the best thing i've heard from them. i got two tracks in and realized that it was the best thing they've done. there are a few good tracks in their back catalog that are worth checking out but as far as a complete album you can't beat good apollo.

i hated the guy's voice when i first started listening which was actually what caused me to stop listening to them for a while. then i heard good apollo and his voice started to grow on me. now i can tolerate it enough to listen.

i still have no clue what's going on with the whole story behind the lyrics and whatnot, but it's good to listen to.
