Post subject: like a fine wine pearl jam gets better with age

I think pearl jam will be around for a long time but were going to have to wait a long time for ablums to be released every 3 years for a new cd at least so lets enjoy this and not think it the last. and i think wws sounds like do the evolution to me from what i heard any thoughts and for God sakes relax take this tiime to check out some up and coming bands . why we wait for a pearl jam cd

I hear what you're saying - I do believe Pearl Jam will be around for a long time - they're the classic band of our generation, and I hope after this album it won't be another 3 years for their next release. As for the checking out up and coming bands, I've tried to get into some of the new stuff, but find myself constantly going back to my Pearl Jam and Soundgarden - it's like the soundtrack of my life.....

I would agree with you about Riot Act at least. It was the only album that lacked a bit of a spark, imo. Even Binaural had some atmosphere about it

Can you elaborate on this? Why do you think it's tragic? Maybe you're not old enough to relate to some of the stuff that comes between Vs. and Binaural? I don't know.
I mean to me it feels like I've grown up with the band and each record I can relate to because I'm feeling some of the same emotions, and having some of the same thoughts. Is it not like that for you?

Maybe to you, but their stuff after Vs. is their best work (except RA), or atleast IMO.

I think the first 3 albums are much more accessible than the last 4. Pearl Jam has definately changed throughout the years.
I think some people in my age range have a little trouble with later stufff because we were at that age (teenage years) for the first 3 albums where you really build emotional ties to certain music. I'll never love an album like I do Vitalogy, even if this new one is better.
Having said that, I think Yield is just a hair underneath Vitalogy for me, and I've really come to love Binaural. Riot Act and No Code are albums I really have to be in the mood for, so I don't listen as much.
I think PJ is getting more interesting with age, and I love that, but i wouldn't say they're getting better.

When ten came out,I was 18.I hadn't heard anything like it.The anticipation for Vs and Vitalogy was stupendous.It started to wain a little with each release.Although Yield is an excellent album,it didn't have the same effect on me as the previous four.Binaural is a grower,it takes time to absorb all the the little nuances of it.Riot act was and is a major disappointment.I just can't get to love it.Hopefully this new release will be good enough to catapult them to the forefront of rock once again.Sorry,I forgot about no code.Again not really the same feeling as the first three.

I like PJ's earliest stuff better than their more recent stuff. So in that sense, for me, I wouldn't say they've gotten better with age. However, I am also not saying that they've declined with age. They've evolved, and for the most part they continue to pump out kick ass music time after time, year after year, album after album, tour after tour.
As for their longevity...I'd like to see them call it a career once the first one of them hits age 50. It just seems to me like a barrier that's not worth crossing, and I think that if they continued to tour a la' the Rolling Stones, their live show would become less and less entertaining. That would be a sad sight to see, considering they're the best live rock band ever.
Which means they better get back in the studio, pronto, because I want a few more albums before that happens! ( and tours! )
