Who gives a shit?

For the past 4 days the number one story on CNN.com has been Mardi Gras.

There's a fucking civil war starting in Iraq, and it's not even on the front page!!

I complain about the news having its priorities screwed up all the time, so no disagreement from me.

Mardi Gras? Meh.

I'm sure I'd change my tune if I was on Bourbon Street though.

Hey, if there were titties on CNN, this thread would not exist.

If I remember correctly, I think the top stories over the past several weeks, on CNN.com, have been Fatney Spears being at Mardi Gras; Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes rumored break-up; developments in the Natalee Holloway case (absolutely 0 reasons this should be a national story); and I'm relatively certain there was a story about a roving gang of dogs on minibikes.

msnbc isn't even leading with iraq. they have a story with a soft lede that mentions iraq about four grafs down. and it's lower in their headlines.

hell, even the local long island newspaper has it on top!

I think it's important that Mardi Gras gets good coverage.
The city of New Orleans will only recover when they can bring in money, and lots of it. Tourism and conventions brings money, as soon as people start to see it's ok to go back....they will.

So you think this is a conspiracy in the media to overcover Mardi Gras this year?

You think they're undercovering the violence in Iraq, or is it just losing out to the drunken festivities of a half-filled city?

Conspiracy? No. But the city was virtually destroyed and covering ithe first major event since then is certainly newsworthy.

I think people are bored and numb to anything going on in the Middle East.

That may be true, but Iraq has gone through a fundamental shift in the past week, and the media has been too busy covering a party, and a bunch of bullshit about the Dubai ports deal and the VP's shooting skilz.

Well David. I think this, as well as the DP World reaction just shows you how out of touch mainstream America really is with the rest of the world.
