Well they pick a handfull of songs, then write them down on paper, thus a setlist is created.

hahaha...i think i have the answer. they dont like to play the same songs over and over again and they dont like to give cities the same thing twice so it swicthes up styles and lists. just my opinion but i might be correct.

and hey if you dont think so just look at the 2000 tour. they wore out "Corduroy" for the year and i think they may have learned from that. but "Corduroy" is still kick ass.

They just have a little group meeting before each show and write out the setlist. Like that picture in Place/Date. And then they often change it up on the fly, depending on how the night is going, how the sound is, how the crowd is, etc.

mmm...hard to say from down here...but I think they have 1 or 2 songs which are almost 100% likely to be played from every album and then they just decide the rest...variety in PJ´s setlists is one thing that always amazed me...

In 1998 I was told that they would work on the setlist the night before the show..but then I'm sure they change things day of,if something comes up.

A good example of this is Jones Beach 1 2000. Before Sleight of Hand, ed asks the crowd if they want to hear it, otherwise they were just going to skip it. From this and other shows, I've deducted that Ed feels the crowds out to see if they would be into some slow or rare stuff.

I know a lot of times they might have two or three songs picked and only play two. However the crowd is or how they're playing.

Seattle 96 they worked with microsoft to crunch some numbers and stuff and the program came up with a setlist. Well, naturally it crashed after the first couple of songs so after each songs the band met quickly in middle and decided what would be played next.

well thats not true at all>>>

in 2000 i saw back to back shows , 9/1/00 & 9/2/00- philly
and these songs were played both nights

betterman , evenflow,DTE,last exit, animal, given to fly, corduroy, porch, and insignifigance

and in 2003 i saw three shows in hpilly 4/28 7/5 & 7/6 and these songs were played

betterman, even flow,Dte, save you and RITFW

in fact a kind of weird tidbit i have been to seven pearl jam concerts and i have heard Betterman, Evenflow , and DTE 6 times

DTE is fun and easy to play
Evenflow is the Mike moment

Good example, Boston July 2, July 3, and Jully 11th.

By the way, I was fortunate enough to be at all 3.

from what i remember reading, it's normally Ed that picks the majority of the songs to be played, and then the other guys each chime in with a few that they'd like to play. I remember reading that in a Mike interview last year i think.

and obviously the setlist gets messed around with on stage.
