This might be the wrong place for this. If so the mods can move it to the Live section. Just thought it would be most visible here.

I wanted to lay out some key points about this historic archival release for all of those who are on the fence about buying it. I have listened to the entire show - with headphones, on car stero and home sound system.

The Show: 11/30/1993 - Aladdin Theater - Las Vegas, Nevada
The Set: 1. EvenFlow 2. Once 3. Deep 4. Jeremy 5. Dissident 6. Daughter 7.Go 8. Animal 9. State of Love & Trust 10. Tremor Christ 11. Black
12. Blood 13. Alive 14. Rearviewmirror 15. Whipping 16. Leash 17. Porch
Green River Reunion: 18. Swallow My Pride 19. Ain't Nothin' To Do

Special Notes: This release is missing the final song of the night - a cover of "My Way" - I assume for copyright/licensing issues. But that song was released on the 1995 Christmas Single so you can take it from there and have yourself a complete show.
Also, the Official Site lists "Instant Karma/Across the Universe" after Dissident and before Daughter. This is WRONG. There is nothing inbetween Dissident and Daughter. Snippets of these Beatles songs appear in the "tag" of Daughter but they are so minimal that they barely deserve to be noted. From Instant Karama Eddie says "Who Do you think you are? A superstar" and then repeats "Nothings going to change my world" (from Across the Universe) like 3 times.
Also, the "Tearing" tag is not attached to Leash (another error on the pearljam.com site) it is attached to Porch.

This show also marked the live debut of Tremor Christ
(another listener noted that the Eddie's delivery of the lyrics are - to put it kindly -rather shaky).

Review:
The most important thing to know is that this show is VERY SHORT. For 19 songs the entire concert clocks in at 81 minutes plus a few seconds. You can fit 18 of the 19 songs on a single 80 min. cd so for those without a mp3 player, pick a song you can live without and chop it.

A short show like this was not particularly unusual for the band at this stage in their career. The songs are very straightforward - lots of energy but little variation from the standard versions. That is my biggest complaint - the versions are quite stock - nothing out of the ordinary. Even Porch - the longest song of the show - is finished in approx. 6 minutes 22 seconds. However, there is something about the Jeremy on here that I really like.

For "Leash" lovers, the version on here is pretty standard. Fun and upbeat but again, short. It leaves you wanting more and longing for some of those epic versions from 1992.

Very little banter from Eddie on this one. Not much crowd interaction. Someone throws a shoe on stage and he makes a little comment about it. There is no sort of introduction of the Green River members. They pretty much just kick into the tunes. But there is some nice Stone banter after Swallow My Pride.

Band Performance: Very Very tight. Almost no lyric flubs, all members are hitting every note perfectly. Eddie's vocals on Once and Blood show no fear. Dave A. fans will also be delighted. His drums come across well in this mix and his playing is razor sharp. Porch showcases his abilities quite nicely.
The Green River songs are ok for the novelty factor but if you are not a big GR fan, you might not dig them. Swallow my Pride is funky little number but the vocals annoy me. Ain't nothing to Do is a Jeff Ament tune that is a straightforward rocker. Makes me think of "Don't Gimme No Lip" for some reason. Nice guitar work on that one. It is actually pretty kickass but again, I am not a fan of the vocals.

Sound Quality: This is probably the most important question for many of you. People hear things differently and a lot of sound critiques come down to personal preference. I like the mix. The drums and vocals are quite clear. Jeff's bass is not as easy to distinguish as it is in more recent bootlegs (the 2005s for example) and the mix lacks the "fullness" and "punch" of the US legs of the 2000 tour.
Again, I think a more mono sounding board mix was characteristic of the band's live recordings in those days. To my ears, the sound is similar to that of the Atlanta 94 recordings on the Dissident single series.
But the bottom line is that you will not find a better sounding version of this show. So take it or leave it and quit your bitching.

MP3 v. Lossless : I won't even touch this one. Just remember that Lossless cannot improve the quality of the original source, it can only preserve it. I believe there are lossless files of "My Way" available. The audiophiles can get that, listen to it and compare it to the sound of the MP3s of the rest of the show.

Overall: Totally solid show and a fine representation of the band's sound at this point in their career. But that might be the problem. For a band that makes excellence the standard, this show is really just another day at the office. Was it worth my $11? Of course!

Your point is duly noted but you have to remember that this show was the very first live performance of Tremor Christ.
I believe the song was still a work in progress which is why it is a bit unfair to be critical of the lyrics on this version. Arguably, the lyrics had not been finalized at that point. It reminds me of early versions of Immortality. The music is pretty much finalized but Eddie is developing the lyrics each time they play it in concert. It doesn't sound like he is actually forgetting words.

No, he forgot them. If he didn't write them, then he was making up mumbly noises, and I call that flubbing.

I'm just saying, if you write a review, and someone sees that everything's perfect... it should be perfect.

Quit philosophatin' and get to rockin'!

So is this the infamous "let's shoe the shoeless" show ?

I'm a little confused.

No. I think you're after 11-05-93.

Nice review; thanks.

It would be a good idea if this became a regular feature of the board/TSIS for each of the Vault shows... what do you think?

It would. We can probably stick this and make it like a SOTM thing in Pearl Jam live once we have more of them.

I LOVE THIS BAND :D
nice review.....

as for being incomplete.....
And knowing the song is My Way, I believe Elvis's label ran into problems with that song as well (as its actually a Sinatra song, NOT Elvis like it is introduced in the Pearl Jam concert)
It was either My Way, or Bridge Over Trouble Water that RCA/BMG/FTD had a problem with a few years back.....

And considering the price of the Pearl Jam boots..... I would imagine whomever holds My Ways publishing rights was asking some stupid amount.

about 2 burn this to a CD now,
I trimmed off the first 10 seconds of "crowd noise" from before Even Flow, about 30 seconds off of "crowd noise" from Porch, and then figured out how much over the CD still was, and took that off of the end of "Aint Nothing To Do" to get this all onto 1 disc, well keeping ALL the songs. (- My Way of course)

so if you can handle cutting CROWD NOISE and a guitar note here or there, its possible to fit this on ONE DISC

First post here...

I agree with the review and appreciate the time spent writing it, but this show does stand out from the other Abbruzese setlists. The energy on these tracks can best be described by Stone's "coke" line after Go.

Yet in this high energy, there is a definite laid back feel that allows the boys to meander a little bit. Eddie rambles in his vocal a little more, which I love. McCready's solo on SOLAT is like no other. They just really seem 4 bars ahead of themselves on almost every song.

So BUY!!!

I made a few edits to the review to address comments made in this thread. I also cleaned up some spelling errors. Thanks for the feedback. I hope this was helpful.

i have that boot on my computer if you want it. its good quality. sounds like soundboard except the guitars sound low and you can't hear any crowd noise. still, it's worth having until PJ releases it in the vault.

But you don't need permission to release a cover version, you just have to pay royalties for it - right?
