This subject needs it's own column. I actually enjoy this just as much as the NCAA tourney. It's basically a gamblers wet dream. Plus for us "non-workers", we can just sit at home and watch hoops all day and night for a whole week. I love how you get some sleeper teams that go on a roll and win their conference tourney. Then their momentum into the big dance becomes a huge factor. Basically conference tourney week is on the same level as bowl week

i have mixed feelings about the conference tournaments. it's great to see your team for possibly 3 days in a row, but at the same time you worry about the heavy workload this late in the season. assuming seeding is locked in, a loss in the early rounds of a conference tournament is about the only time i'm ambivalent about a UT loss.

exactly... i was just saying today that i want Carolina to win its first game but then lose its second (to BC more than likely) and get some rest before the big tourney... it's nice to win the conference tourney, but the regular season championship matters much more imo (unless, of course the tourney is the only way to get your ticket punched)

My parents took me out of school every year at noon on the thursday and friday of he tourney. it started when i was like 10 and they did it as sort of a tradition every year. My mom didn't understand the fuss but she followed dad's orders when it came to tourney time. I've quit jobs over not being able to get the 2 days off at the start of the big dance. I have to deliver flowers next wednesday and thursday this week but i'm trying to switch days so i don't miss the early round afternoon conference tourney games. My wife thinks i'm insane but i just forked over $1,200 to her for blinds for the new house. Now tell me who's insane?

i dont watch any of this, but i love hearing about how a team that was 4-10 in the conference wins the tourney and gets into the big dance.

you can mold your girls to like mens hoops. My wife loves college hoops and is pissed hat we aren't in Vegas for it this year. She's trying to get off for the early round games in 2 weeks. She's in love with Dee Brown. She makes all sorts of dirty remarks when he's on TV.

For me the highlight of it all is the Big East Tournament. The year I first really got into it was when Ray Allen, Kerry Kittles, and Allen Iverson were in the league and I believe their schools were 3 of the 4 in the semifinals. Those were some great games. It's typically the most exciting of all the big tournies and now that the conference has supersized, it should be even more fun. Even the lower-seeded schools like Louisville and Notre Dame can make a deep run.

I just wish I could catch all the early games this year. :(

i believe that most experts would say the ACC is the most exciting of all the big tourneys (but not this year, of course)

I believe you're talking about 1996. UCONN vs. Georgetown that year in the Big East tournament was a classic game.

i love the smaller conference tournaments where winning really matters. Felt so bad for Loyala last night, but that guy had a wide-open look from under the basket. Just dunk it already. He looked like one of the kids on my four-year old munchkin team trying to find the hole.

Yes, and that was also the year of the John Wallace Syracuse team that lost to Kentucky in the National Championship. Great year for the Big East.

I don'ty think Arizona deserves to get in the tourney anyway. I realize their non-conference schedule was good but they haven't showed me shit since December. I think they are an average team and without Adams they basically suck. Actually, i hope they make the tourney so i can bet the ranch against them in the first round. Same goes for Syracuse

picks to win the major conference championships:

ACC - Heels, of course.... w/o bias i would have to go with BC
Big 12 - Texas
Big East - UConn
Big Ten - Illinois
Pac-Ten - UCLA
SEC - Kentucky.... have to pick a darkhorse somewhere, and this conference is a joke imo

who ya got?
