Did anybody catch this last night? It was pretty good. It was pretty interesting seeing the whole process of Slash and co looking for a singer and then having to deal with Weiland and his heroin use after they chose him. I realize a lot of people here think Contraband is crap but i really like it. I thought the album might sound stale after awhile(a la Audioslave) but i still listen to it a lot. Their second album should be pretty interesting

fuck yea. that show was amazing to watch. so in depth, and seeing these musicians rehearse songs. go through singers and listen to others demos. seeing them argue...same shit different band, all bands are the same. its great. i couldnt believe scott almost missed that show in front of the big wigs...thats hilarious.

really cool and interesting story.

now im not a huge fan of coontraband, i saw them in concert and it was one of the coolest shows ive been too. the album has 4 or 5 good songs otherwise im not too big of a fan. but im a huge fan of everyone of those musicians in the band so...

very cool.

I listened to this album twice since the day it's come out. It's boring. I listen to Audioslave all the time however. To each their own.

that was pretty good. Wow I did not think Scot was that bad! He looked horrible! It was a sad sad thing to see how far he had fallen into that addiction.

thankfully scott seems to be over this problem, at least for the moment. i've never been the biggest fan of his work; i appreciate it and his talent, but i've never been able to "get into" it.

looks like i'll have to try to catch this on friday....

i doubt it will top the g 'n r behind the music though

I wish I had VH1 here...

I think I will be more interested in the making of their next album though. I don't know. I have the album, I saw them on the club tour b4 Contraband was released. It just doesn't seem to floor me. I thought it would cuz I'm a really big Slash fan. It just seems like he didn't try for this one.

Weiland did a great job on the record, but I can hardly tell that Slash was even present during the recording of it. He's non-existant and it's what made the album so disappointing.

You serious? Slash's playing is not as aggressive as the G n' R days, but still he's prevalent. I love his playing on Contraband.

my guess is that Slash seems in the background a bit more on Contraband because of the epic songs that GNR did on their last album. Slash seemed to shine a lot more with those great solos. of course i'm just assuming.

I couldn't tell him apart from anything I hear on hard rock radio. Sounded generic and boring to me. His style is totally castrated IMO.

I can kinda see what you're saying...but I wouldn't call it castrated.

Kicked in the balls maybe?
Seriously, pull out Appetite or Lies and then VR. The difference isn't just Izzy.

Maybe it's age...

I have to agree with you to some extent, but I think he remains a great guitarist, better than a lot of the crap out there.

Maybe, because of the success of this album, it will give him a new sense of confidece to get back out there and rock that shit.

Man, when I was a kid, Appetite kicked my ass all over the place. Slash is the reason I first picked up a guitar. I just feel totally underwhelmed by the VR album.

I like it, don't get me wrong, I'd rather hear that than Nickelback or some other shit like that but it just doesn't sit right with me.

Did they show or play any clips of other potential lead singers singing on their demos? And if they did, did it sound any good?

yes they showed a few singers singing over "Slither"

then invited one singer in and kind of just screamed..it wasnt very good...another guy sent them back their demo with vocals over it...it was called "stripper girl" they laughed at him..."even when we were going to strip clubs back in the day we wouldnt have wrote a song about it..."

and they also showed a bunch of peoples videos they sent in to try out and listened to others demos...some absoltuely horrible, actually all..they got a good laugh out of it...
