will be released this week ... in Japan, and it looks incredible. There's no word that I've heard about an exact date for an American release, but I'm betting that they're going to push it out before Christmas.
Also, there's news of Final Fantasy III, the only installment of the whole series to not be released in the States (our III was actually part VI), being remade for the new Nintendo DS. Since all of the titles will finally be here, I'll be able to at last live out my nerd fantasy and beat all of the series. I've been playing these games for sixteen years now.

Bash it for being linear, but I think FFX is one of the best games (PS2 and everything else) of all time. The story is blockbuster-quality and the ending made me nearly cry. The gameplay is just engrossing and the graphics are a perfect 10. Even the developers said they did their best to push the ps2 hardware limits.
The characters are extremely memorable, the fighting system is perfect IMO, soundtrack is incredible, etc.
FFX rules.

Final Fantasy VI (III in US) was the best of the series. Final Fantasy VII is close runner-up for me.

4 is my favorite, with 7 and 9 close behind. I played the 12 demo though, and I was not impressed. It is all in 3d, and the PS2 just cannot handle it. 10 actually looks much better with its fake 2d backgrounds. Normally I am really excited about a Final Fantasy game, but I wish they would just delay this a year and upgrade it for next gen systems. It also has a realtime battle system, which is fine for other games, but I like my traditional turnbased system when it comes to Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Plus it is about time that Final Fantasy brings in more then three characters at a time. Come on, the Snes games had more then three people at a time, 4 or 5. There is just not a lot of depth you can get with only 3 characters per a turn.

I love FF games, but honestly they are becoming too serious. I miss the light-hearted quality of classic RPGs. I'm engulfed in Dragon Quest 8 right now, hopefully square-enix took a hint from this game for FFXII

Looks pretty solid. I'm sure it will be better than the abortions known as 11 and X2. The only thing that sucks is there are now two PS2 games I must get in the month of October; this and Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. After thrwoing up that 100 bucks, I'll have to somehow save up money for PS3. I'm certain that I won't have one until at least the middle of next year.
I've only played from FF7 on and this is how I would rank them:
1. FF7
2. FF8
3. FFX
4. FF9
5. FFX2
6. FF11
it's beyond me how people actually enjoyed ffx other than the fact it was pretty to look at. characters i didn't care about, sidequests that took 300 hours to do for very little reward, and that awful sphere grid. miserable.
