=========== ORIGINAL POST ================= You seem like a beer aficionado. Would you please tell me your top 5-10 brews with a small sentence or two about each? My 21st is coming soon and I'm interested in finding out about the good stuff. Pretty much the only stuff I've had are the shitty cheap beer (natty light), bud, bud light, mgd, miller light, guinness, and boddington's.
Thanks in advance, Mitchell

wouldn't drinking natty light get you kicked out of, like, the country clubs and whatnot?

Alright, here's a few. No order. These are all available in North Carolina, but aren't brewed here, so I assume their distribution is wide enough to get to Texas.
Spaten Optimator - high gravity and damn tasty. This is one of the beers that MADD fears, b/c it's 8.7% ABV but it doesn't taste it at all.

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA - I love everything this brewery does, so it's hard to pick a favorite, but this one is a good starter. If you don't know what hops taste like. They taste like this beer. (see also the 90 Minute IPA and Midas Touch, and if you like stouts, the Chickory Stout)

Stone Arrogant Bastard - This might be a tough one for someone new to craft beers, but unless you're sipping it (which I must, as a beer snob, recommend), you'll be fucked before you know it.

Chimay Grande Reserve - My pallatte has a tough time discerning between the colors of Chimay, so I'll just recommend the strongest. But, you gotta work in some Belgian beer.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - For as widespread as this is, it's a damn fine beer. It's also an easy jump from light American lagers like Bud and Miller. It was one of the first American Pale Ales and it's tough to find one better.

Anchor Steam - Another easy leap from shit beer. It's a lager/ale hybrid that really resembles the lagers you're used to and takes it easy on the hops if the Dogfish Head or the Sierra Nevada are too much for you.

Allagash White - A good replica of a white style Belgian beer. It's got a lot of crazy flavors in it (the Belgians like to throws tons of shit in beer, kinda the opposite of the German Purity Law).

Wychwood Hobgoblin - I listen to a podcast about beer and the guys love the fuck out of this beer. I had it once, and liked it but it's expensive. It also comes in a kick ass bottle.

Where are you at in Texas? If you can make it to a Flying Saucer, http://www.beerknurd.com/ , it's a great place to experiment. Plus they'll have local beers which I know nothing about.

Please change the title to "Dear B, Recommend Me A Beer"
Anyone else wanting a recommendation, give me something to go on. Beers you like. Beers you don't like. And why ... if you know.

I remember watching Cold Pizza one morning and they had someone talking about all these different flavored beers. I can't really remember what they were, but I do remember a chocolate flavored beer. Have you ever had any beer similar to this?
