With pearl jams self titled 8th album coming out...how many more do they have in them..Something alot of fans even myself don't really like to think about. The kid in me of course says they could go on forever even the adult in me says pearl jam gets better with time like a fine of wine...but what does the band want...do they want to still go out there in there 50's still playing...Pearl jam loves there fans and loves for people to hear there music and there is no question they would do anything for us..but when will they say the time is right for something else...i see 2 or 3 more albums (all of which we will eat up and love and they will be sick as ever) myself before they even think about such things but one just has to wonder because you know ed's heart has to be with wanting to see his little girl grow up and the road is a tough place even if your with great people like jeff matt stone and mike and the whole crew that works the shows..

It's best not to think about it. 2-3 seems safe but I could also see them becoming elder statesmen like REM or U2. We may only have 1-2 more albums before Eddie really has to stop screaming though.

I have thought about this on several occasions. I think 3 or 4 more. Another 10 years and their done. I think despite what he has repeatedly said, Ed will eventually do some solo stuff. But it is hard to tell, I sense a freshness to some of the new stuff and unlike a lot of bands, they seem to enjoy what they are doing.

I can very easily see this happening. And I hope it does.

This is my first post. My guess will be that pearl jam will continue to rock for the next 10 years. Lets just hope that from here on we get a new album every 2 years or so, like the boys used to put em out

more pj the better id say ofcourse but i want the band putting out albums becasue they want to not because they feel they have to put something out as time goes on..same with concerts as long as they want to do it great more love to them..i just really don't want to see them become the stones or something myself..and i say that with all the respect and the world for the rollingstones...there songs are great and wonderful but when you go see them NOW.. it don't seem like your seeing a band your seeing a act or something same deal with aerosmith

I can see them going on for another 10-15 years. It's not like the demands on them are that great. They spend a few months making an album, tour for a year, then take two years off. That seems like something a bunch of 40-50  year old dudes can handle.

It's not like they're Metallica. Has anyone seen "Some Kind of Monster?" There's a scene where they're talking with their manager about their future, and he basically informs them that they can't break up because there's too much $$ at stake.

I could definitely see PJ going on for another couple of decades or more. Like what's been said, it's not like they have a whole lot of pressure to put out an album every couple of years and tour, especially with their new contract with J Records, which gvies them a lot of artistic control; plus they recently said that their friendship is as strong as ever, so there's no real band turmoil. And it's not like there's a Metallica kind of rule where they can't participate in side projects, so if they want to explore new styles of music, they can do so.

Plus I think they kind of need each other in order to make sucessful music. Mike's a great guitarist, but I'm not sure if he can't consistently write an album's worth of material every few years, and that's ditto for Jeff. Stone's proved that he can, but his voice is questionable at best. And I think Ed doesn't really have the desire to pursue a solo career; if he did, I'm sure he would have released a solo record by now.
