Fantastic :D I love your posts. Pilate just shot up a few notches in my esteem. Get your ass over to the SOTM threads more often.

I do think you're reaching a bit with lowlight and ATY though.

that lil ditty i just read doesn't make that song any better.

"like pilate, i have a dog" and that entire musical part with the chorus along with the words, is just terrible. Nothing that anyone can say will ever change the wretchedness.

You lost me on page 6. It was very good writing, your talented. I thought it was gonna make a lot of sense but you struggled to make connections. Also in the liner notes of Yield, the lyrics for Low Light are " I don't need the light"... listen to it carefully. All in all, I give you a B+ young man, keep up the good work.

Yeah, thanks for the comments. With writing it's always a work in progress, so...

If I ever dig into this again...I'll keep that in mind.

You know how they released Brother as an instrumental and stripped away the vocals? That woud be a dream come true for me with Pilate. The music is so awesome but I hate the "Like Pilate I have a dog" chorus. The "Listens Kisses Loves" in the background is equally annoying. The rest of the singing is fine.

I remember the pre-yield album anticipation and how Pilate was one song in particular that people were really excited to hear because Stone Gossard made a comment in an interview about how awesome it was and how much he liked playing it.
Then the album came out and people were like "that is Pilate???"

Great song musically but the singing just grates on your nerves. Unfortunately I hit the skip button a lot more often that I should when this one starts.

Trust me, by the third draft of that, it will be a well respected piece of PJ literature, and an answer to many fans questions. I was a little harsh with my review. (cut it down to 5 pages)

Not harsh it all... I can see where you're coming from.

yeah Stone needs to seriously reevaluate. That was a big disappointment hearing that the first time. At first I was like this is good...then reality smacked me in the face and I realized just how awful it was.

I kinda like Pilate, the chorus isn't the best but it's not nearly as bad as evacuation, I don't skip it, it could've been better especially with such a great bridge

I have never seen anyone give love for Evacuation on this board,.. it is such an awesome song, especially when he extends the evacuatttionnnnnnns at the very end.

Pilate is good, Evacuation is great. Right up there with Grievance.

I like pilate including the chorus. I can see why people don't like it tho.

I always thought Jeff came up with far better explanations for his songs than the actual resulting lyrics e.g. low light and nothing as it seems, which are just full of non sequiturs.

I did, and they said they would post it, but then they never did.

At least not so far.

Agreed. He should just share the books he likes with Ed and tell him to write the lyrics

enjoyed the article, man. i've actually always wondered what the story was behind pilate and this is the best explanation i think i've read yet. like stip that just bumped pilate up a few more notches for me (though i already liked the song before). i enjoyed your writing though. keep it up. (and do visit the SOTM threads!!)

Hi, Jess should be emailing you shortly on that. We've had a small dry spell of articles in the past few months but it's been the first time in 3 years (geez, 3 years!) that kathy, jess and I have had extremely busy lives outside of the online PJ world.

We also learned lessons the hard way by putting our email addresses on the articles/site because we all get so much spam it's almost uncontrollable. this has caused Jessica's email to crash in it's entirety, so if you've emailed her, she hasn't been able to get her mail.

Also, nothingfan can attest (we've worked on an article for a year!) that we take our time and sometimes don't get up articles as quickly as it seems they should go up. often it's a matter of how many articles we've got going on at once, or other times it's timing.

sorry, i'm rambling ... but Jess is working on it, and she should be emailing you soon.

Cool, thanks for the news.
I'm far from bitter or anything like that, don't worry.

When I did email Jess last she said she was really busy...so I totally understand.

Wow, I guess I'll have to fix this up then.

Any ideas? Comments? Criticisms? The ATY/Lowlight thing may go...is what I'm thinking. Make more of Bukowski.

And while he's at it tape his mouth up before he goes on stage to prevent himself singing backup vocals that sound like a cat being put through a grinder.
