Backe and Pettitte should have better seasons than last year and Roy O is likely to keep up his form. Backe really came of age in that final WS game. Roy is a beast.

If Astacio can get a little more consistency, and Rodriguez churns out a few more solid performances (he's OK, but clearly never going to be a star), and add to that the same bullpen as last year, they probably still enough fire in their pitching. Let's see how Buchholz develops this year as well... he's supposed to have a good variety of pitches reaching mid-90 speed too.

The question is as always going to be the offense. They've only really added Preston Wilson, who should be solid, and hopefully Berkman can have an injury free season. Biggio will be Biggio. Ensberg can hopefully make another few strides from last year (in fairness to him, he played great until the injury), and we can probably expect a little more from Taveras, Lane, Everett, Bruntlett and Burke.

Please Astros... don't leave it to the goddamn All Star break to step it up.

Not the Pirates. The Cards and the Astros are the two best, but the Brewers could surprise.

Astacio (Leatherface) is in AAA.

I'm taking into account the fact that he won't be for too long.

I don't think he's the greatest thing to ever throw a ball but c'mon, he deserves more credit than that statement.

EDIT:

Oh, the stros are taking it back to the WS. :!:

Backe has virtually all the weapons necessary to be a first rate pitcher. The only thing that separates him from that category is his tendency to get overexcited when things are going his way. Or otherwise known as immaturity. He's growing up now.

Cubs fan eh? You know I've always quietly pulled for the Cubs and would love to see Prior and Wood get healthy to see where this team could go. I would like to see the Reds do well too but that's a long time coming.

He pitched horribly in the regular season last year. I hope he "matures" into a good pitcher but I just don't see it.
