I honestly don't know how I feel about this. One part of me wants to see the Simpsons wrap things up ASAP before they get any worse. Another part of me wants to see the Simpsons in a new format, and that maybe this might redeem some of the quality they've lost in recent years.

There's no possible way they can do that at this point. The movie will suck.

The main problem with the Simpsons currently is the writing. So if they brought in a crack team of writers (or maybe just Conan)...i could see it being funny.

I honestly rate Season 16. I thought it was quite funny. Some of Barts best stuff ever, and Homer has got meaner and funny like feck in regards to Patty and Selma.
Haven't watched Season 17 though. Will wait till it is finished and download it on torrent.
There is alot of hate for the latest seasons, but sometimes i think people aren't really watching and are too easily lead by other peoples sentiments.
Don't want a movie though. Usually kills most cartoons forever.

they'd have been better served doing the movie earlier in their lifespan, i.e. South Park

I totally agree.
Though I have some hope for the movie as well. If they do it right it can be really good.
i think it's gonna be a great. keep it at 1h30min length and all will be well.
coming '07 eh. imo ... season 18 might be the very last of the series & the movie will come out in theatres the week after season 18's last episode on fox. it will all end with a bang. or something like that.

If they're able to lure back some of their best writers from the past to pen a movie, it could be phenomenal. If they rely on the current line-up, I'm going to be highly disappointed.
