Is this just another day This god forgotten place First comes love and then comes pain Let the games begin questions rise and answers fall Insurmountable
Love boat captain Take the reigns and steer us towards the clear Here It's already been sung But it can't be said enough All you need is love
Is this just another phase Of earthquakes making waves Trying to shake the cancer off Oh, stupid human beings Once you hold the hand of love It's all surmountable
Hold me and make it the truth That when all is lost there'll be you Cuz to the universe, I don't mean a thing And there is just one word I still believe And it's love...
It's an art to live with pain Mix the light into grey Lost nine friends we'll never know Two years ago today And if our lives became too long Would it add to our regret
And the young they can lose hope Cuz they can't see beyond today... The wisdom that the old can't give away, hey Constant recoil Sometimes life don't leave you alone
Hold me and make it the truth That when all is lost there will be you Cuz to the universe I don't mean a thing And there is just one word and i still believe And it's love... love, love, love, love
Love boat captain Take the reigns Steer us towards the clear I know it's already been sung It can't be said enough Love is all you need... All you need is love love, love...

This was a song I didn't care much for at first, but has grown on me all the time. Musically it's okay. It has the same problem that a lot of their later anthems have--it feels more like a demo, like it's missing some depth to it--a great idea that they never finished. And the title is appalling.
I also can't stand the recycled beatles lyrics.
Once you get past that though the lyrics to the verses are really excellent, and there are some nice themes here--younger people having to learn to look to the older and wiser for perspective on the world. What seems immediate and terrible today will fade with time, and we'll grow from it and maybe end up a better person for the experience.
At least that's the part of the song I really like. If the message is pnly love is nice then as Eddie said--it's all been sung before--and the song gets a bit redundant.
A nice song to write on the eve of 40.
Who do you think the love boat captain? Lyrically it seems like he'd be singing about Lennon but I always imagined this being about Neil Young or the Ramone he was really close to.

Me too
Not as much as can't keep (it'll be wonderful tonight) though
Do you like it better with the Boom intro or with the Ed solo intro?

Love Boat Captain is one of my favourite Riot Act songs, and it's a beautifull balad. This is one of the best examples that music is what you make of it. Basically because it's said that the lyrics were written based on a tragedy and people who died, and for me it's such a beautiful love song.
There are some parts of the song that are just amazing. The part that says "Hold me and make it the truth / That when all is lost there'll be you / Cuz to the universe, I don't mean a thing / And there is just one word I still believe / And it's love... " is great, I think that everybody sometimes feel that to the universe you don't mean a thing, because the universe can be only a person...
"And there is just one word and i still believe / And it's love... love, love, love, love" is so true...

just a typical pj song.i think the band can write better songs that lbc.i didn't like the lyrics.comparing to sad lyrics i think sad is so much superior..

i really disliked it when i heard it on riot act, but ever since i heard it at MSG as an opener, i think this is such a kick-ass song and i love when the song picks up and gets going.

Not a bad song, but certainly nowhere near one of the band's best. How this came to be the third track on "Riot Act," while Undone (a much more powerful song, in my opinion) became a b-side is still a giant mystery to me.
And though Boom is credited as co-writer, let's face it: this is a song written by Ed and Boom merely adds the organ part. Nothing against Boom, because I love him, but if his contribution is why this song made the album, that's bullshit.

The absence of undone and down continue to amaze me--especially because they have the same upbeat message as LBC.

the fact that undone was only played once amazes me.

easily the best parts of the song
to me the best part is this one:
And the young they can lose hope Cuz they can't see beyond today... The wisdom that the old can't give away, hey Constant recoil Sometimes life don't leave you alone
but it´s all good...such a beautiful and powerful song..loved it from the very first time
