Spin the Black Circle
See this needle...a see my hand... Drop, drop, dropping it down...oh, so gently... Well here it comes...I touch the plane... Turn me up...won't turn you away...
Spin, spin...spin the black circle...
Pull it out...a paper sleeve... Oh, my joy...only you deserve conceit... I'm so big...a-my whole world... I'd rather you...rather you...than her...
Spin, spin...spin the black circle...
You're so warm...oh, the ritual... When I lay down your crooked arm...
Spin, spin...spin the black circle...

Not much to say about this one. Great riff, great intensity, and the kind of unhinged vocals that Eddie does so well, especially when you consider the fact that three songs later the same guy is singing nothingman. They’ve got some stuff that’s better when you want a song to just punch you right in the face (go, animal, comatose, brain of J), but STBC is pretty excellent nevertheless
I used to be a bit down on STBC since it didn’t seem to have the lyrical substance the rest of the record has (for exhibit B see big wave), and I’ve never owned a record player so I don’t have a vinyl fetish, but it’s come back for me over the years and lately I’ve been super into it.
This might be my least favorite song on Vitalogy, which goes to show just how much depth that album has. It’s a 3.5 star song for me, but lately it’s been closer to 4 than 3 so I’ll give it four.
I still can’t believe that for all the songs in their catalogue this is the one that has one a grammy.

I used to like this song a lot, but now I find it to be a little bland. Yeah, rly. 3 stars.

top 5, really? There isn't enough substance to it for it to crack a top five for me, or even a top ten.

i still cant believe we are almost 70 songs into SOTM and STBC is only now getting the honors.

The riff just gets me going so much. It really makes up for the lack of lyrical substance, it just flat out kicks my ass.I perhaps have one of the strangest top 5s of any RMer.
1. Alive
2. Gone
3. STBC
4. Corduroy
5. Black

we're barely halfway through the catalogue actually. it'll be a sad day when we finish it, although it'll make merging much easier

Gone as your number 2? That's insane. Alive and Corudroy are my 1 and 2, and black is a top 15 so I can't argue with those

fair enough. I've had five different songs as my number one throughout my PJ live. First Even Flow, then SOLAT, then Satan's Bed (after the 94 atlanta show), then Corduroy, than Alive once the RVM remix came out.

I do like this song, but as Stip said...of all the songs in the PJ catalogue, it's "hard to imagine" that this would be the one to win a grammy (winning a grammy actually doesn't mean very much)...i guess that's all about vinyl in the end, and it's nice that the band made a tribute to it with this song.
4 stars

Still great but definitely the weaker song in the fabulous Vitalogy opening four.
It is. (opening five)

Agreed.
I like this one ok. The studio version is by far the best it's ever sounded. I really don't care for how Matt plays it and couldn't stand how Jack played. An ok riff with ok lyrics ( like Stip, I'm not all orgasmic about vinyl) that is cool to rock to every now and again.
